Are the two of you still on dial-up? Those are atrocious numbers. I don't know how I'd survive with such things.

It's all geography. I remember in New Jersey, one of the most densely populated states in the US I could get 8 megs. If your more than a couple of miles outside of a urban area nobody cares about you.
As for my current internet we should probably add what we all pay for that speed we're getting. I think I paid like 20 dollars last month. I could get 8 meg for like 30-ish bucks but 4 is fast enough for Netflix HD(kinda shows how much of a joke that is) so why bother.
This. Up until a couple of months ago, my 4 Mbps speed was the best one could get, because I live in a rural area. Now that Time Warner is offering internet out this way (and for the same price as the slower than dirt ISPs), the speed is gorgeous. When you had 4 Mbps, and now you've got 34 Mbps, that might as well be an entirely new internet.
