what show did you start watching star trek

I was about ten or eleven and I remember watching TOS 'The City on the Edge of Forever'. I didn't understand a lot of it but I remember Spock telling Edith Keeler he was attempting to make a mnemonic circuit out of stone knives and bearskins. All I remembered was the 'stone knives and bear skins' as a child. LOL

I started watching TOS in syndicated reruns in the late 70s. I was OBSESSED as a really young pre school boy. I don't know how old I was, but I remember seeing my dad's TMP novelization with the Kirk, Spock and Ilia poster artwork on it (this book is now part of my collection) and I remember the TMP toy line being confusing because it all looked "different." I was born in Dec 1975...so even though I don't know for sure how old I was, I was clearly younger than 4 given these memories.

I can't remember a day without Star Trek growing up. My father was a trekkie. I remember watching TNG but I know we watched the original movies together.

Loved watching repeats of TOS in the '80's on the BBC in England. However, I think I was a fan before I'd even seen a single frame.

When we were kids back in the late 70s and early 80's we would watch old episodes of TOS. As kids, we didn't "get" the ideas being discussed. We were just kids and we enjoyed laughing at the cheap sets and costumes and the hammy acting. Over the years, I watched an occasional episode of the TNG-ENT era ST and the a few of the movies. . It wasn't until well into adulthood that I started to seriously get into ST and the 1st series I made any effort to watch all the way through was TOS.

Great question:

Was the TOS from an early age, back in the late 70s / early 80s... Obviously syndicated repeats.

Was also aware of TMP - and from an early age, I remember preferring the enterprise refit design, over the TOS version... (I've always loved swept back nacelle struts!).

That's where it all started for me!

:bolian:

TNG, 89-90. It was something I watched and didn't fully understand enough to really "get it" but I watched whenever it was on. A few years later DS9 became essentially "appointment" TV for me and got me hardcore into the whole franchise.

TNG. Can't remember which season, but must have been somewhere between S2-S4. I must have been around 17 when I started watching.

I started to really get into TOS and the films in the mid-80s. I even managed to convince my dad to get me the Search For Spock action figures and ships. I was 7 at the time they came out I think. It took me awhile to come around on Next Gen and the other spinoffs but Deep Space Nine has finally hooked me now that I'm not missing 3 or 4 episodes at a pop and can stream them back to back.

As a young boy in the '70s, both TOS in reruns and TAS. TMP was a wonderful way to end that decade of my boyhood.
