What is your first name?

Re: the Dave collective - Way back in college, I was part of the band (~300 members at any one time), and we had more than our fair share of Daves. We tried to give them nicknames to distinguish them, but one one point there were 16 of them at once! You know we were running out of ideas when the nicknames were things like "Another Damn Dave".

I had a similar experience. Within my circle of acquaintances we had at least five Daves: Doctor Dave, Skater Dave, Love Dave, Silver Dave, and Industrial Dave.
There were quite a few of us Daves at school, but we tended to use nicknames or surnames. Or nicknames based on surnames.

Mairiee

Now, before you go on and overheat your brain trying to pronounce it, it's just Mary. Not something fancy like Mayree. Or Marie. It's Mary.

*headdesk*

That being said, no one but my mom calls me Mairiee. I'm Lilly or Honey to everyone else.

:adore:

Although i tend you call you "Oh God!" more ... :o

Well, when you got it you got it. :ouch:

I'm called John-John by a few people. It's not so bad.

But "Johnathan" just drives me up the wall. I think it's because people just assume it's my full name when it isn't. And when I tell them as such they don't believe me.

Oh, me too. For some reason, those people don't realize that a name doesn't have to be short for another name. John is a full name in it's own right.

I married a Dave.

My problem has been with Mikes. In college, there were three Mikes in my major--and they all lived together. When you called, you had to specify: Mike MacCormick, Mike Cable, or Mike Smith. We just started calling them by their last names.

I like that short form. Pretty cool :techman:

Thanks! I really dislike my full name, but "Hill" I can deal with.

;)

Yeah....like I haven't heard that like 4 million times. :vulcan:

Not that it's not true for me...... ;)

David was an extraordinarily popular name for boys for about three decades in the 20th century. At one point, about 4 per cent of the boys born in the USA were being named David. I wonder why?

Only you. :adore:

And you certainly got it. ;)

And i totally agree. Alex is a perfectly cromulent name in and of itself, and i HATE it when people assume it's short for Alexander, or even worse, Alejandro. My name is Alex, goddammit.

How does one extract Lilly and Honey from "Mairiee" without using a really large pair of pliers?

These things do tend to go in cycles, it's true. And some names seem at home in any time period without becoming quirky or old-fashioned after a while. Long runners FTW!

Lillian(Lilly) is my first middle name.

Honey is what my the parents called me around the neighborhood.

My first name is Richard, but most people call me Rick or RJ. Occasionally Rich. My niece and nephew call me Uncle Ricky.

B.J. is my first name, although it is an initialism for my full name + Junior.

I'm involved in a group here that at one point had so many Daves that we assigned them numbers. Dave one, Dave two, etc. I think there were eight of them altogether.

^Coolness! :techman:
Daniel. Although its spelled Dániel, with an apostrophe. But that's beside the point 'cause everyone calls me by my middle name, Johnny. (Johannes: Swedish for John.)
I have a friend called John, except I always call him Johnney Boy

Anyway, to my name. It's Torbjörn. Biking name combining the Viking God of Thunder Tor, and the Swedish word for "bear". So I'll either smite you with some lightning or rip you to pieces.

You can't just do both?

YOU SHALL NEVER KNOW. *mwahahahahaha.*

But my general alias starts with Maria. My real name is shared with a rather well-known geek, and I was named after my father in a way, oddly enough.

You know what's so annoying about my name? I always get mistaken for a woman. Companies send me junk mail with the title "Ms." or Mrs."

- René :scream:

Before I ever specified my gender or posted an avatar, "PianoWizzy" apparently was suggestive of a male. Every single piece of spam or spambot I encounter thinks I'm a guy. This once included someone who later became an internet friend... thought I was a guy for weeks. :lmao:

My first name is Jacob. I'll respond to "Jake", or possibly "Jay", but almost everyone calls me by my full name anyway.

Partially the reason i'm trying to shake the habit of calling people "mate" online and in RL. While it is not gender specific, women seem to take offense. You wouldn't believe the times i heard or read the line, "You known I'm a girl, right?" Then followed by a verbal or written murder. :brickwall:
