What if she was the new Discovery captain? I was thinking this after seeing the beautifully redone Enterprise. (FAR, FAR, FAR better than the Abrams movie version.)

It would be a good way to fill in some gaps from those unknown years between the two STAR TREK pilots, and Number One's character was interesting in the first pilot. A shame we never saw or heard of her again.

I was wondering about this myself.

Unlikely, given that the actor is almost 90 years old. And might not be available due to, um, legal issues.

Well, the fact the Captain is a supporting character rather than the lead does afford them the opportunity to do that "alien captain" thing some fans seem to want.

I don't think it would be a good idea. Her defining feature was that she was a human with calculating Vulcan-like mind. And that kinda is Burnham's thing too (though she's failing at it a lot.) I don't think it would work to have two characters so similar.

It's clear that Number One was a major inspiration to Fuller in the creation of Burnham. It seems to me that his initial idea was to have Number One as the main character of his Trek series, who ened up evolving into the new character of Burnham at some stage.

I don't have a problem with this beyond the obvious... good luck re-casting Majel Barrett.
I don't see it happening. She's not just another actress. She is special to what Star Trek is.
There are actresses that could probably do the job, but I don't see them going there. Ever, possibly.

Personally I didn't like that recasting.

Create new characters instead of redoing ones that were already done perfectly once.

Prime Lorca is actually still alive, living as Garth of Izar -- MU Lorca did something to him, idk what, something something mushrooms. Burnham and Co. find him, explain to him who he really is, and it makes him go insane.
