Leonard Nimoy IS Spock. Well, except for that brief time in the mid 70s when he was't.

Seriously though, I'll just never buy anybody but the original cast in those roles.

I never felt that Quito (or the writers/directors/etc) ever capture Spock's essence. Nimoy-Spock was deep and complex. Quito-Spock everything was on the surface and on display.

If TPTB do cast a actor as Discovery-Spock, let's hope they have considerably more luck.

Personally I didn't like that recasting.

Create new characters instead of redoing ones that were already done perfectly once.

No actor owns a character forever. That's kinda the nature of the job and theater in general.

This is not theatre. Until the Abrams films Star Trek kept branching out an creating new stories with new characters, not rehashing the old ones.

As much as I liked Saru's stint in command, I don't think it will be him. Discovery was going to Vulcan to pick up their new captain, after all, and Saru was already with them on Earth.

I don't think anyone who's left on the Discovery crew should be the captain. Or anyone else in the Discovery universe who's still alive. I want a brand new captain, who is not a Star Trek character we've ever heard of before, and is a human. Pick your sex and race, I don't care, just do NOT want an alien as the captain.

No, it's definitely the writing. The movies have Spock throwing temper tantrums many times, meaning that's what Quinto has to play.
