What If Number One Is The New Captain?

Maybe it won't be "Number One". Maybe it will be "Number Section THIRTY One!!!1!1!1!"

Ohhhhh baby. I sense a fangasm!!!!

*Gasp!*
And perhaps now we'll finally get an explanation as to why the ship's registry is NCC-1031! You don't supposed this was planned all along?

Having Number One be the new Captain would not be the worst idea they've had, as long as they intend to continue with their current "creative" policy of "Maximum Fanwank At All Times!"

Nonetheless, Spock was successfully recast in the most successful and widely seen run of Star Trek movies ever.
I never felt that Quito (or the writers/directors/etc) ever capture Spock's essence. Nimoy-Spock was deep and complex. Quito-Spock everything was on the surface and on display.

If TPTB do cast a actor as Discovery-Spock, let's hope they have considerably more luck.

Quinto *could* have made a very good Spock, had the writing been there. Instead he was Emo-Spock.

Personally I didn't like that recasting.

Create new characters instead of redoing ones that were already done perfectly once.

No actor owns a character forever. That's kinda the nature of the job and theater in general.

You think the ancient Greeks were all "What? They recast Oedipus? That's crazy. Nobody will ever top the first guy we saw in the part. Why can't they create a new character instead? Sophocles has run out of ideas!" :)

This is not theatre. Until the Abrams films Star Trek kept branching out an creating new stories with new characters, not rehashing the old ones.

Well, if instead of writing over 120 plays like he actually did, Sophocles would have just kept rebooting Oedipus, I'm sure they would have said that.

I don't think anyone who's left on the Discovery crew should be the captain. Or anyone else in the Discovery universe who's still alive. I want a brand new captain, who is not a Star Trek character we've ever heard of before, and is a human. Pick your sex and race, I don't care, just do NOT want an alien as the captain.
Guess you're not going to like my idea of Captain Tribble then...

And kept rehashing the same tired old stories, formulas and attitudes. It was boring to most people, and that is why it died. And, notably, has not returned.

Personally I welcome the fanwank. I am a fan...please wank me.

That's certainly the formula that's sold billions for McDonalds.

Fans die out and go away. When the rest of the world has no reason to find the obsessively narrow, repetitive and backward focus of their affections interesting, so does it.

I may seem xenophobic, but if given the choice of Saru or a gorgeous female Andorian, I'd have to go with the lady Andorian. :D
