I really don't think he did.
i'd be hiding out in the hills and stealing supplies and weapons from their convoys and then planting IEDs and ambushing them and blowing up their propaganda outlets and freeing their slaves Red Dawn style, but with frickin' lasers and shit.
A lot of non germans who joined the SS were not Nazis.
I'd just steal one of their ships and go some place else.
Who's with me?
I dare say if i was a frenchman or a norwegian living in occupied europe at that time , and the nazis were recruiting non german men into the SS, which they did in real life, i would have seriously given it some thoughts about joining up, considering the bleak economic situation europe was in during the war.
And then you would have been punished in a potentially cruel way in 1944 during the Epuration. You would certainly have died wearing a cool uniform. Isn't that great![]()
well i would use the ODESSA network to escape.
For God's sake i am NOT a nazi. A lot of non germans who joined the SS were not Nazis. There were russians, indians and bosnians in the Waffen SS and they were certainly not NAZIS. They joined up because many were POWs who volunteered because of harsh conditions in the POW camps and also they hated the communists and imperialists more than the nazis.
Many citizens in occupied europe had a lousy economic situation going on and many did join the nazis because of that. Some joined because they believed in the nazi ideology and some joined for a paycheck. i am the paycheck type.
Yes he did, he is just not bullshitting himself. Have you actually ever considered that you are responsible for all the actions of your country as a democratic citizen? Most people cannot stand this radical ethical implication of democracy so they bullshit themselves via putting all the blame upon public figures and so on.Many citizens in occupied europe had a lousy economic situation going on and many did join the nazis because of that. I don't think that you considered seriously the meaning of your statements.
EmoBorg is just honest to himself and admits that he would have been a mercenary in this situation. There are worse things under the sun.
i will not call it evil for joining up. It will be evil if i killed civilians.
Are you actually trying to weigh his honesty as a positive quality against the pathetic admission that he'd join up with the SS just for a paycheck? Seriously? Because if you are, that is one massively warped sense of morality and ethics you have there.Yes he did, he is just not bullshitting himself. I never said it was.Morality is actually a variable and is not fixed.
Wait..."you Christians"? Art thou referring to me? What gave you the impression that I am Christian? Anyway, moving on.one of the famous sets of morality laws was the 10 commandments of the jewish torah or old testament as you christians call it.
This is all irrelevant to my point. The logical fallacy you've committed this time is the false analogy, but I'll let that slide, as my point might not have been perfectly clear; I am not referring to the situational morality of the OP, but to the moral comparison you seemed to be making: that honesty about one's motives somehow lessens the wrongness or badness of actively joining the Nazis to make a buck. I just don't think that honesty ranks that high on the morality scale compared to numerous atrocities committed by the Nazis and the SS, and I think anyone who does find them comparable has a warped and misguided sense of morality. Try thinking about it practically and disregarding your philosophy 101 texts for a minute:one of the commandments is "thou shall not kill" but if you had to kill one bad guy to save at least one innocent life, will you? if you were onboard on one of those aircraft that were used during the 9/11 event, will you kill the hijackers to prevent the crashing of the aircraft if it comes down to that.
What a surprise, a moral inconsistency in the Bible. The funny thing is that after moses brings down the 2 tablets from Mount Sinai, he finds some of the jews worshipping a golden calf and moses in anger orders members of the Levi tribe to go and kill the golden calf worshippers. Moses himself was not obeying God's law of "thou shall not kill"
Morality is not fixed.
I am a progressive guy and quite concerned about the potential reemergence of a fascism in Europe due to the repetition of mistakes from the thirties during this financial crisis. But I will not get a moral erection just because one guy says that he'd have worked for the nazis back in the days and I certainly take his honesty over the BS of all the people who claim that they would be resistance fighters yet have not done one act of resistance (from a state of safety; you are not risking your life when you speak out against corporate oligarchs or torturing presidents) against crimes committed by their government .Are you actually trying to weigh his honesty as a positive quality against the pathetic admission that he'd join up with the SS just for a paycheck? umm, to the best of my reading ability, No One that has replied to Him has made THAT claim, so you might want to rethink your line of thinking there buddy....
Please apply the response I wrote to emoborg to your argument -- they are, after all, the same argument: honesty balances endless atrocities. Again, if you actually believe this, and are not just saying it because a)You haven't actually thought it through or b)You just want to be contrary because you think it's cool (I suspect it's a combination of the two), then you are severely morally misguided.I am a progressive guy and quite concerned about the potential reemergence of a fascism in Europe due to the repetition of mistakes from the thirties during this financial crisis. You might not like the truth but most people do not give a shit. They want their stomachs full and their feet warm.
ETA:This thread was WAY more fun when teacake and I were having lesbian space adventures.
How can anybody misread a post that starts with an actual concern about fascism?honesty balances endless atrocities.
