What happens to other countries on Earth?

The Union Flag is seen in 'Into Darkness'. Yes it's an alternate timeline, but it does suggest that maybe even in TOS's 23rd Century the U.K. still exists in some autonomous form. Either that or all the old nations still keep their flags as some kind of quaint tradition.

I may be mistaken, but it is my understanding that it is called the British Army rather than the Royal Army because it can only be raised and maintained with Parliament's consent, whereas the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy may be raised and maintained on the Monarch's own authority.

There is a royal division, "The Queen's Royal Fusilers', etc. That doesn't necessarily mean QEII is the 'commander in chief' even though she's the nominal head of state.

The Queen is the Commander in Chief, is the Head of the Armed Forces, and is the "ultimate authority" of the military. British military officers and enlisted personnel swear allegiance only to the Monarch (and not the Prime Minister or Parliament).

By exercise of Royal Prerogative powers, the Queen delegates the management of the British military to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Defense.

As I understand it, the British Prime Minister is require by law to get the Queen's permission prior to the nation going to war.

Have to get Mum's permission to go out with the toys, you know.

As for the succession state. It last about ten years and then be crushed by one of the major powers, or the Federation due to the succession state's own arrogance. I did more or less that story back in the seventh grade (1991) before such a thing appeared on Star Trek. I expanded on it after TUC came out to reflect the post-Praxis conditions. They were based in what FASA called the Triangle and were a mix of local planets and rogue starships and bases all operating out of Starbase 10. I called them the Triangle Powers for one reason or another. They fought the Klingons and Romulans in turn to keep their borders secure as the Federation was doing nothing to safeguard that region, and following Camp Khitomer, Starfleet did even less against the Klingons. In response to this threat to the peace, Starfleet had to deal with the Triangle over the next decade, eventually quelling them and returning the region to some as semblance of normalcy (perhaps taking it all into the Federation at last).

I cheated with the storyline as I was going to use it to jump into a Star Wars crossover by the time I was in high school using this group escaping to another galaxy via a wormhole-like object only to go through time and space to a galaxy that was not only far, far away, but also a long time ago. Just a year or two before what would become known as the Battle of Yavin. I still have lots of notes, a short story written for a Young Authors contest, and even part of a screenplay written for a college class. Use to be a Yahoo group and one of those old AOL chat sim groups for it but those started to die off around 2001.

Correct, the monarch is also Head of the Church of England. (Henry VIII wanted to marry his girlfriend)

Wow! That is huge.......

I just wish more of Earth was explored in Star Trek but no one has dared to cover much of life on Earth beyond small snippets here and there.

This has been my biggest wish since 09. A series that refers back to Earth on a regular basis so we can see everyday life in the utopia.

Life in a utopia would be boring - certainly too boring to sustain a weekly TV series.

This is the best reason why Trek never showed daily Earth life.

The closest scenes to life on Earth was the ST09 scenes with Kirk's childhood and Kirk meeting Uhura in a bar. Did not seem too perfect.

Not to nitpick but surely you mean Monarch's permission ;)

Okay, there was the scene in San Fransisco in STD, clean and pleasant city, the people we see look healthy and nicely dressed, there's a mixture of sexes, races, and some aliens. The amount of road traffic somewhat surprised me, but the skies were free of obvious pollution.

All these things we can have without being a certified utopia, but it is nice.

Not apparently a dystopia, of course the "slums" could have been just a few miles south in San Jose.

Nah, San Jose is a Techno-wonderland.

Their version of slums is our version of middle class living. 'What you only have 3D Terran channels, we've got Federation Subspace HoloTV!'
