What happened to Iron Man 2?

DonnyBaker

Lieutenant
What happened it Iron Man 2? I mean there has been virtually no talk about the film since it was released. It has basically dropped off the face of the planet. Would this be considered a bomb?

The film has made 580 million dollars, nearly equal business to the first film, and it is still playing on 2,305 screens. Definitely not a bomb.

Um, its been a while since its been out, it was very hyped, and did very well. Like any movie, the hype wears off and people get interested in other new things, movie hype and media exploitation is always temporary. It ran its course. Time for the next big movie.

Though while I say that, I think maybe Star Trek's hype did last a little while longer, same for Terminator.

In regards with Terminator, it was people saying how badly it sucked... I cannot speak the same for this movie, I haven't seen it yet, so I've not really paid attention to it. Star Trek? That's because it brought in new life to the franchise, regardless of whether people hated it or not.

We had a thread on that is probably still available to post your thoughts on if you look it up and yeah it was the first movie of the summer season and it's still in the box office. Last time i checked it was still in the top ten. I would suggest finding the Iron Man 2 discussion thread...

I guess Im talking about how nobodies really talking about it like they did the first one. No news stories, basically its fallen off the face of the earth.
Is that because people didnt like the story or the execution? Or is Iron man 3 DOA???

IMDB.com has it at number seven this past weekend.

It has been out over a month, it was talked about when it premiered quite a lot.

Iron Man 2 didn't suck, but I don't think it was a good as the first one. Terminator: Salvation also didn't suck, but it didn't blow me away either.

I just saw it today and really enjoyed it!

Great fun, good story and lots of cool action!!!

Okay, read the article about The Karate Kid takin' the number one spot, and the list of the top ten still has Iron Man 2, but it has dropped to number nine.

But, still it made more money than Splice this weekend.

It already surpassed the gross from the first Iron Man movie...they're not hurting...

Iron Man 2 definitely had it's flaws but it was an entertaining movie overall...I would have done a couple of things differently myself which I think i posted in the Iron Man 2 discussion thread. I don't think "Iron Man" was overly discussed as much as the original poster is remembering but more widely liked. I also don't think Iron Man 3 is going to be DOA. Indeed I suspect that Favs and company are going to learn from their mistakes that they made in this film (they wrote and filmed the sequel the same way the first one was done without expecting success and pandering to the fans) and Favs has also said that the Mandarin would find his way into the movie if he could think of a way to make him work without him seeming lame.

I thought it was boring.

I don't know much about the comics, but to have Downey Jr go from playing a man who took control of his life and turned it around to be something constructive, to a drunken idiot who spends half the movie stumbling about acting like a petulant teenager was not a good move for the film.

The first film garnered an unusual amount of attention, starting with the first Comic-Con footage, because of its novelty - it was a new thing, and the level of quality it delivered was greater than anyone probably expected.

This was a sequel. A sequel can do very well without exciting nearly the commentary, unless it's exceptional. The Dark Knight would be an example of that kind of exception.

Tony stumbling around and acting like a teenager is kind of how he is during the "Demon in the Bottle" storyline that fans bring up. I had no problem with that...also not to take a shot at you but you do remember that he was acting that way because he thought he was going to die and wasn't telling anyone about that right?

I thought they didn't focus on the alcoholic aspect enough. It needed more buildup than what we got, like having him hit rock bottom and working his way back to the top. I also didn't buy the scene where he's drunk and fighting with Rhodey. It almost seemed to come out of nowhere.

This is what Im trying to say. It seems that the first one was such a media darling and the 2nd one just seems like its disappeared? I cannot see how the 2nd movie has made more money than the first unless they are figuring in the 3-D and other higher ticket prices...
