What games are you playing currently?

I need something to play.... I tried Claire Obscur but the first boss made it clear to me that that I simply don't understand its combat system at all. It's not intuitive which is ok I guess but it means I'll have to actually study how to play the game online and that's not something that I enjoy doing, ESPECIALLY this early on. If combat were more straightforward I'd probably be playing that now but it's on hold. I'll go back to it eventually but with a freaking instruction manual in front of me.

I reached the end of the story 2 days ago. Honestly, the combat system is not that complicated. Bosses are difficult but not desesperatly difficult. I felt that I was closer to beat them after every tries. Some of them had me to look at some game mechanics that I didn't really use to their full potential until this fight (picto and lumina).

I still have side quests and exploration to do but I can say that I liked the art direction of the game and itsglobal mood. The story is interesting but I rate Witcher 3, Cyberpunk and Disco Elysium above Expedition 33.

I downloaded Blue Prince from PS Plus extra to play while finishing Expedition 33 and my second Witcher 3 playthrough.

I don't think it's super difficult. It's just that I'm not going to figure out what I'm supposed to do and how I'm supposed to build characters that will work well together if I don't log off and hit some videos or websites. I don't mind complexity, I just prefer that systems kind of ease me into that complexity at first and add more complexity as I've had time to master the first few things. In terms of characters working together - Dragon Age the Veilgaurd had an easier system to understand and that you could get by on until you learned the finer points. Learning it was natural as you progressed the game. There's also not really knowing the class system and how to build for each character which attribute points, pictos, lumina etc) that I'm gonna have to learn.

I think it will be fine once I learn it but it's different enough from what I'm used to to feel like I need an explainer on 'what's this for?' and ''how should I be building my characters?' type deal. It's just frustrating when you want to jump into something and realize there's a little bit of homework to do before you can do it and feel comfortable about it.

Cyberpunk's story gets more timely each playthrough. Especially the in-game lore about the destruction of the first net and the AIs beyond the Blackwall. TW3 is amazing. I've replayed it nearly every year + DLC since it's been out. Ironically, I bought Disco Elysium last night on sale for $7.50 (hard to beat that). I had over a hundred hours in it from when it was on services. And had been wanting to play it again. That game is a mood more than anything but I love it.

Played a little bit of Doom the Dark Ages on gamepass and I have to say I demand a Captain America skin for the slayer. That shield is so good, I barely touch the guns or gauntlets. I played over the cloud on easy just to get a taste of it and it is a fun little time waster and perfect Captain America Sim.

Just finished revenge of savage planet, basically a collect everything to upgrade type game, it was fine, no issues, and the 30fps thing that seems to have had the internet explode was not really noticable for me as the game is not really a fast paced game, but i think the game would have faired better if they had went more down the base building, and removed the shooting bit and stuck to exploring, scanning, collections animals to research to open upgrades, as the shooting part of the game felt out of place.....but a solid 7 1/2.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nostalgia 64. An utterly fantastic mod/romhack that pays tribute to the N64 library, especially Rare games. It's been 1998 again for awhile.

Been playing Disco Elysium (again) plus Tainted Grail the past few days. Tainted Grail has been in early access but releases 1.0 today on the 23rd. The best way I can describe it so far is indie Elder Scrolls meets indie Elden Ring (darker mood and and higher difficulty). The difficulty level may be a little too hard early on unless you go from normal to easy mode once you escape the early/tutorial area. The early access play I've done has been super promising. It's got its issues but for an indie game it's amazing.

Been playing WrestleQuest and been having a lot of fun. I've never even been super into wrestling when I was growing up, but somehow this captures the nostalgia of the 80's. I've been really curious as to how wrestling would translate into a turn-based rpg, and it's been a really fun ride through a toybox world where you get a mix of wrestlers and non-wrestler forming teams.

I am stunned at how much better Tainted Grail is... We're talking 0.9 to 1.0. So far it's amazing. Even the early combat jank has been fixed.

I finished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 about a week, maybe ten days ago.
After that I played the Pirate's Fortune DLC for Star Wars: Outlaws.
And once I finished that, I started playing Blue Prince.

i have been slow boating my way through spongelad shakey space remoistened while working through demos collected during the last couple of steam events.... and here comes the next batch of steam events...

Just finished Dragon Age: Veilguard. It was really good. I've been a DA fan since Origins and I really liked it, I really don't understand why it has such a bad reputation. With, say, Mass Effect Andromeda I understood why people don't like it even though I did despite its flaws, but with DA:VG I just don't get most of the complaints. Sure its side quests can be a bit repetitive, but its not a huge deal.

To me the most important parts are that the gameplay is very fun, the story is solid, and the companions are all great with not a single dud in the bunch. I'd definitely recommend it to people who like the franchise, unless they haven't gotten over the gameplay changes between DAO and now, I guess.

I liked Mass Effect: Andromeda too despite its faults. I did like that it attempted to do something new with the franchise by setting it far away from the area the original trilogy was known for and making the theme about colonization.

I think the issues people have with DA: Veilguard stem from the development issues it had and generally what EA as a company has been doing in terms of supporting the IP. Initially they wanted to make Veilguard a live-service game, but late in development they had to pivot away from that, but it was too late to change certain things such as the mission structure or the hub. I haven't yet played it, but, seeing that I've also enjoyed Andromeda, I think I'll end up enjoying it too when I eventually get to it.

Yeah I also liked Andromeda. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but overall I enjoyed my time playing the game.ž

Oh and lately I've been playing Balatro.

Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don't Dry

Steam had it on sale for $1.49 so what the heck. Totally captures the early 90s point and click adventure games, with a side a Larry sleaze.

Glad to know I'm not the only Veilguard fan out there. Going by a lot of reviews and how much hate it received across social media you'd think it was the worse game ever. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The combat was a lot of fun, I appreciated the scaled back areas that were still large enough and fun to explore, the story was great, and I loved the companions. I even got a bit emotional at the ending. I understand it was a departure from the other games, but honestly each DA game has done its own thing. I kind of want to replay it now.

I am working on Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Switch. I own it on the Wii U but never finished. I love the game, but there were design decisions on the original that made it hard to finish. Companions didn't level up unless they were in your party, which would be fine except there's over a dozen companions. Plus, they are spread out all over New LA and finding them can be difficult. This led to a lot of grinding. Fetch quests could be tedious because the game would just say go find four of (insert whatever random thing you need) in this large area. There was one mission I spent hours trying to find whatever widget I needed to collect. Basically, the game became a huge grind fest and I never finished. The Switch version has fixed all those issues and I'm having a blast. I'm just ready to get a Skell again.

I mean, I'm sure it's a bit like fans of the first two Fallout games making out the 3rd game to be the worst thing ever just because it didn't comform to what they thought a 3rd Fallout should be like. There was absolutely hatred by purists who felt it wasn't a real Fallout game because it wasn't isometric like the first two games. But fact is, games have to evolve with the times, especially in the case of Fallout which had a large gap between the 2nd and 3rd games. At the time Fallout 3 released, an isometric rpg would have been a hard sell and would likely have been seen as not mainstream enough.

I'm doing a bit of Sunset Overdrive on PC and while it's fun and the traversal mechanics are fun the city feels dead. Cars just sit there, there's no people about and apart from you and baddy npcs and people you are supposed to meet etc. the world feels really lifeless. It's very colourful and all but yeah so I really don't feel motivated to finish this in a hurry.

Oh @Owain Taggart I freaking loved playing The Invincible that was such a great game full of atmosphere and it was enjoyable. I ended up getting the book its based on. Well worth a read.

BTW Forspoken is a lot of fun. I finished the main story and nearly got all the photos it was that last damned photo it's on a treacherous windy path with nightmares everywhere that chase you and a little frustrating. I ended up quitting but as for the main story that was finished. It's actually a lot of fun
