What games are you playing currently?

The devs flat out state that they were inspired by JRPGs, particularly Final Fantasy 7. 9 and 10 and Persona but if the story is strong enough then the combat won't matter all that much. Final Fantasy 16 wasn't turn based but they went over the top on combat that had more in common with watching a short film than fighting a boss and they did it without doing much in the way of telling a decent story.

For most games story OR a brilliant sandbox will cover for gameplay in my eyes. If I'm complaining about combat it's liikely because the game didn't immerse me or worse, just bored me.

I never got into Final Fantasy or JRPGs in general for some reason but have played tons of western style RPGs, so this is a refreshing change of pace. I don't much care for the combat system itself if it's well made and doesn't bury you in a million special attacks for which you have to learn and press certain button combos ( step out for a week or two and be ready to relearn controls).

What's far more important is the vibe the game puts out and the story and from the looks of it Clair Obscur really shines there.

I can't really compare it to JRPG, I am not very knowledgeable in this genre but I had to buy Clair Obscur : Expedition 33 after someone commented that it's a agressively French.
After 7h in the game, I think it's not agressively French, it's just the rest of the world that is not French enough :D

Anyway, I like it so far. I had fun with the gameplay but maybe beaucause I am not used to turn based games. Some have said that it's a good game to start with this genre.
The story is mysterious enough that I want to know more, the starting point of the plot is really good.
Bonus, the soundtrack is great.

I hope the reste of the game is good but for now it's promising and I am glad to support a studio from Montpellier that apparently put a lot of care in their game.

Hey! Haven't seen you in forever. Hope all is well.

And of course, we should all be more aggressively French. Well, except for Louisiana which is aggressively French in ways that make even the French look around for some white bread to tone things down.
