Finished up The Last of Us Part II, and damn that was a hell of an ending. I honestly think this was the most emotional experience I've ever had playing a video game. It's an amazing, fucking gut punch of a game.
Literally just finished 'Last of Us'...the first one, not Part 2 because I don't own a PS4.
Seriously, I don't know why it took me so long since I've owned the damn game for going on seven years! I think part of it was that the controls are a little unintuitive, and if I put the game down for more than a few days I forgot how every thing works and had to go back and replay the tutorial levels...then got bored.
Also, I think my temperament as a gamer has changed somewhat over the years as I found the stealth gameplay way more engaging and less stressful than I used to. No joke; in the final section where the game is literally begging you to just run and gun it, I was still setting traps and choking people out, one-by-one...
But yeah, my PC started acting weird while playing DAI a few weeks back (I suspect either SSD of GPU failure imminent) so to forestall, I'm dusting off my consoles and the handful of games I own.
My main take-aways: I'm honestly shocked Joel survived. Given how the game started I was sure he was destined to die in the end. Indeed I'm 100% sure I read someone online saying that exactly that happened. So reverse spoiler, I guess?
It certainly lives up to the hype, quality wise and even on a last-gen console the graphics hold up very well. Would love for it to and the sequel come to PC with some higher framerates. Indeed it does seem as though Sony are now open to allowing some of it's exclusive titles to release on Steam. Honestly, even as someone that's always been both a console & PC gamer (though mostly PC as the years have gone on) I don't think there's much of a reason to keep games like this off PC. Seems like they'd make more money on the millions of software sales than they might loose from a few thousand potentially lost hardware sales.
Also; count me as looking forward to playing Horizon Zero Dawn as there's no way I can afford to get a PS4 or 5 any time this century.
Now to do a new game plus, then work my way up the difficulties. I may cheat on the second time through any consult a guide to get all the collectables. I think I got like 107 out of 140 or some-such, which was surprising since I feel like I was very thorough in scrounging (missed a shiv door somewhere too!)
P.S. Quick strawpoll though if people would indulge me; what would you say the best two or three PS3 exclusives are (not counting Last of Us)?
I'm eyeing 'Red Dead Redemption' & 'MGS4: Guns of the Patriots' at the moment, but even used they seem a bit on the pricey side... (or maybe I've been spoilt by Steam sale prices)
P.P.S. Any opinions on 'Left Behind'? It's like 8 quid on PSN and I can't see something so old on a last gen system going on sale any time soon, so I'm wondering is the DLC worth the price?
