What games are you playing currently?

Steam forums are a fun place right now. Horizon Zero Dawn just dropped for preorder and the forum for that game is a hot mess with people trolling about this being a sin because they ported it to PC and people feeling hurt that their console game is now on PC.
Lol I always crack up about the Xbox fanboys that cry about how an Xbox "exclusive" is usually also available on PC. Personally, I don't give a crap if something is a console exclusive or not. I try to buy all three of the current consoles. Personally, I think it'd be cool if most if not all games were available across all consoles. My nephew is die hard Xbox, so he'll never get to experience the joy of playing Spider-Man. (Well, he probably will. I may give him my PS4 Pro when PS5 comes out :) )

The PS4 people are like that too.

^ Not all of us. ;)

While I do 99% of my gaming on the PS4 Pro, I do also own an XB1. And I'm totally find with Horizon: Zero Dawn being released on the PC.

Obviously I didn't mean you but some console people feel betrayed, which is for want of a better word bemusing.

^ Yeah I know you weren't talking about me specifically, hence the smiley face. :)

Let's just say that there are a ton of idiots out there.

Yesterday I read that Laura Bailey, the voice actress that portrayed Abby in The Last of Us 2, is getting death threats. Like seriously, how fucked up are some people.

Very:(

I'm glad Horizon Zero Dawn is coming across to PC (along with a couple of others) as I mostly use a PC for gaming. As for exclusives (if there are many on the PC), any I enjoy I hope cross over to consoles as (If I enjoy them, one of my mates likely will) and he's exclusively a console gamer.

He's not quite up to date on the X-box series or Nintendo series yet, but tends to get them when he can.

(He's also frequently on the lookout for older ones that he couldn't get so easily at the time)

I don't get why people would get upset about whether or not a game is a console exclusive. There are a lot of games I would love to play, like Halo 3 and on, or the Gears games, but since I've stuck to Sony systems since the PS2 and original X-Box, I never have. I have thought about getting an X-Box One, but I've just never gotten around to it.
And there are a lot of games that love that I've always felt a little bad the X-Box or Nintendo only people never get to play, like the Ratchet & Clank games, the PS4 Spider-Man or the Last of Us games.

This shit just pisses me off, I thought by now most people understood the difference between the actor and the character. I understand being upset, but this is just fucking ridiculous.
I was really impressed with how well they actually managed to make Abby sympathetic, that was not easy to do after what she did. A big part of that was Laura Bailey's outstanding performance.

Finished up The Last of Us Part II, and damn that was a hell of an ending. I honestly think this was the most emotional experience I've ever had playing a video game. It's an amazing, fucking gut punch of a game.
Literally just finished 'Last of Us'...the first one, not Part 2 because I don't own a PS4. ;)

Seriously, I don't know why it took me so long since I've owned the damn game for going on seven years! I think part of it was that the controls are a little unintuitive, and if I put the game down for more than a few days I forgot how every thing works and had to go back and replay the tutorial levels...then got bored.
Also, I think my temperament as a gamer has changed somewhat over the years as I found the stealth gameplay way more engaging and less stressful than I used to. No joke; in the final section where the game is literally begging you to just run and gun it, I was still setting traps and choking people out, one-by-one...
But yeah, my PC started acting weird while playing DAI a few weeks back (I suspect either SSD of GPU failure imminent) so to forestall, I'm dusting off my consoles and the handful of games I own.

My main take-aways: I'm honestly shocked Joel survived. Given how the game started I was sure he was destined to die in the end. Indeed I'm 100% sure I read someone online saying that exactly that happened. So reverse spoiler, I guess?
It certainly lives up to the hype, quality wise and even on a last-gen console the graphics hold up very well. Would love for it to and the sequel come to PC with some higher framerates. Indeed it does seem as though Sony are now open to allowing some of it's exclusive titles to release on Steam. Honestly, even as someone that's always been both a console & PC gamer (though mostly PC as the years have gone on) I don't think there's much of a reason to keep games like this off PC. Seems like they'd make more money on the millions of software sales than they might loose from a few thousand potentially lost hardware sales.
Also; count me as looking forward to playing Horizon Zero Dawn as there's no way I can afford to get a PS4 or 5 any time this century.

Now to do a new game plus, then work my way up the difficulties. I may cheat on the second time through any consult a guide to get all the collectables. I think I got like 107 out of 140 or some-such, which was surprising since I feel like I was very thorough in scrounging (missed a shiv door somewhere too!)

P.S. Quick strawpoll though if people would indulge me; what would you say the best two or three PS3 exclusives are (not counting Last of Us)?
I'm eyeing 'Red Dead Redemption' & 'MGS4: Guns of the Patriots' at the moment, but even used they seem a bit on the pricey side... (or maybe I've been spoilt by Steam sale prices)

P.P.S. Any opinions on 'Left Behind'? It's like 8 quid on PSN and I can't see something so old on a last gen system going on sale any time soon, so I'm wondering is the DLC worth the price?

Hunt: Showdown

Some annoying issues that i'm sure the Dev's will never fix but it's a very tense and interesting game to play (especially with a friend).

I enjoyed it. It's short, so it obviously isn't as deep as the original game, but if you like Ellie it's definitely worth checking out.

The Uncharted games are awesome. There's the Ratchet & Clank games which are all a ton of fun and Valkyria Chronicles which I absolutely love.

I really enjoyed Left Behind. 8 quid seems a bit expensive though.

Already own 'Valkyria Chronicles'...on PS3 and Steam! ;)
Never did complete that one either. I think I reached a certain point and realised I'd need to grind a LOT of training missions to get things where I'd like them to be and kinda lost interest. Also, the plot killed one of my favourite characters, which kinda took some of the appeal out of it...

Never played a Ratchet & Clank game, so I may check out an LP on youtube to see what it's all about.
As for Uncharted...I tried the demo of the first one (I think?) and it didn't really do much for me. It felt like a little like a Tomb Raider game, but with more emphasis on combat and QTEs and less on exploration and puzzle solving (aka: the parts of Tomb Raider games I enjoy the most.) I gather as the series goes on the set pieces get a lot crazier, but I prefer a little more substance than what I've seen Still, I'm open to being convinced otherwise!

That's pretty much what I thought. From what I've read it seems like there's only something like 2hrs worth of content which is about the length of an average chapter. It it were half that price, I'd jump on it, but as it stands...I don't know. I'll probably see how I feel after a NG+ or three.

Ratchet & Clank is one of my absolute favorite franchises, and honestly a big part of why I'm such a Sony diehard. They are just an absolute blast from a gameplay perspective, and they have great characters and stories, especially once you get to the later games. I remember one of the reviews for a later games compared it to a Pixar movie, and I'd definitely agree with that.

The Uncharted series is right up there with Ratchet & Clank for me. They do have quite a bit of exploration and puzzle solving once the games get going.
One thing that Naughty Dog and Insomniac both excel at is storytelling and characters, and the Uncharted and R&C franchises are IMO some of their best work in that regard. I'd put a lot of the characters from both franchises right up there as some of my all time favorite characters.

While I certainly wouldn't class myself as a "Sony diehard", it just so happens that 3/4ths of the consoles I own are Playstations. My PS3 (which over the years I've mostly just used as a media server), my PS2 (still all plugged in but hasn't been switched on in years...and has a PS3 sat on top of it), and my PSOne (in a cupboard with a bunch of controllers and a stack of old PS1 games.) The 4th is a Gamecube. ;)

I did once own an original PS1 in my youth (as well as an N64 & a Mega Drive II) but donated them to a youth club, which I honestly don't regret. The N64 controllers kept breaking, the Mega Drive's contacts somehow got bent and the PS1 got to that stage were turning it upside down was the only way to get it to read a disc half the time.

I think the reason I stuck with Sony so much was mostly because the games generally skewed more mature back when the main competition was just Nintendo, with Sega bowing out of the hardware race and XBox started out as such an unknown (and frankly hideous) quantity. Then there was the RROD epidemic with the early 360's that put me off even more.

I held off getting a PS4 because as I said, by that point I was mostly only using my console for media and only ended up getting a mere handful of games for it. Seriously, I own four PS3 titles: 'The Last of Us', 'The Tomb Raider Trilogy', 'XCOM Enemy Unknown', & 'Valkyria Chronicles'. All but one of which I've since gotten for cheap on Steam. ;)

OK, so hypothetically; if you were to recommend only one entry in each of those franchises (on PS3), what would you pick? (anyone else with an opinion, feel free to chime in!)

Uncharted 2. The first game was primarily in one island location, but the sequel gets more interesting because there's a lot of variety in different locations and the series really came into its own. Most of the best lines are in that game. In fact, I'd say Uncharted 2 is a better introduction than the first game in terms of gameplay. While the first game was more or less strictly shooting, the second game added a lot in terms of exploration and puzzles. There are a lot of fun puzzles in this game that I feel rival those from the Tomb Raider games. They're epic in scale.

Bought the Lego Harry Potter Collection for my xbox one a couple of months ago.

Completed Years 1 - 4 to 100% & unlocked all the achievements unlocked!

Been playing Years 5 - 7 for awhile, still only in the 20% range for that part of the game.

I don't know if you can get these on PS3 but you might like to try Journey and Flower both great games and Abzu as well for the gorgeous art in the game, that one was fun.

Everybody's Gone To The Rapture is also good if you like slow paced games which are relaxing.
