Just beat ALIEN Isolation.... nerves, frayed-- heart, finally slowing down to something resembling a race motor-- breathing, what is this breathing? I can still hear my heartbeat in my headphones.
I would love to see this as a VR game.
Dear Lord, that game is too stressful for me as it is, I don't even want to
think about it as a VR experience.
Yeah, I think it is a truly well done game... from the visuals to the recreation of some of the original film's sound design, to the game play itself.
The randomness of the game is part of what makes it so stressful. There are very few times where the Alien makes a "scripted" appearance. Otherwise, you are sitting on pins and needles, wondering where it's actually going to pop up/down.
I'll tell you what'll get you even worse than the Alien is the facehugger. Thankfully, they can be easily dispatched, but those little frakkers have caught me unawares more than once because I went bursting into a room I knew to be clear of the star of the game.
I did my absolute best to conserve my ammunition throughout the game. By the time I'd finished the game, I'd still had rounds for all my weapons, and even all of the IED's/distractors I'd built. I may have used a Molotov twice, a pipe bomb once. EMP's were probably my most heavily used IED, and that was only if I was about to get surrounded by a few Working Joe's. I used my noisemakers toward the end of the game only....and believe me, I'm glad I did.
For those who have never played the game before, all this talk about weapons....let me just tell ya', this game is first person survival horror....not a first person shooter. Amanda Ripley is not a violent person, although she will defend herself if necessary. She is not a crackshot like most characters in an FPS game.... and it shows in the "gunplay" in this game. You might be able to fend off certain enemies, but the game's play makes it abundantly clear that getting into combat is a
last resort, and then, one that must be considered tactically, if you want to survive. Ammo is just scarce enough to make you nervous, but not so scarce that you're left entirely defenseless.... unless you do try to play this game like a first person shooter.... then you're fooked, and all you have left is to try and stealth your way through the rest of the game.
Evading the alien is not too hard, but sometimes avoiding it
is.
Damn....ok.... I just need to do a re-review of the game, so I'll stop here.
