What games are you playing currently?

The devs flat out state that they were inspired by JRPGs, particularly Final Fantasy 7. 9 and 10 and Persona but if the story is strong enough then the combat won't matter all that much. Final Fantasy 16 wasn't turn based but they went over the top on combat that had more in common with watching a short film than fighting a boss and they did it without doing much in the way of telling a decent story.

For most games story OR a brilliant sandbox will cover for gameplay in my eyes. If I'm complaining about combat it's liikely because the game didn't immerse me or worse, just bored me.

I never got into Final Fantasy or JRPGs in general for some reason but have played tons of western style RPGs, so this is a refreshing change of pace. I don't much care for the combat system itself if it's well made and doesn't bury you in a million special attacks for which you have to learn and press certain button combos ( step out for a week or two and be ready to relearn controls).

What's far more important is the vibe the game puts out and the story and from the looks of it Clair Obscur really shines there.

I can't really compare it to JRPG, I am not very knowledgeable in this genre but I had to buy Clair Obscur : Expedition 33 after someone commented that it's a agressively French.
After 7h in the game, I think it's not agressively French, it's just the rest of the world that is not French enough :D

Anyway, I like it so far. I had fun with the gameplay but maybe beaucause I am not used to turn based games. Some have said that it's a good game to start with this genre.
The story is mysterious enough that I want to know more, the starting point of the plot is really good.
Bonus, the soundtrack is great.

I hope the reste of the game is good but for now it's promising and I am glad to support a studio from Montpellier that apparently put a lot of care in their game.

Hey! Haven't seen you in forever. Hope all is well.

And of course, we should all be more aggressively French. Well, except for Louisiana which is aggressively French in ways that make even the French look around for some white bread to tone things down.

People's Nintendo Switch's are running into firmware issues.

Currently, Nintendo is investigating the issue behind the error. While there’s no official solution at this point of time, it may be possible to fix it by following these steps, which worked for some users:

Ensure the console is powered off (If the console does not respond, hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force it to shut down).

With the console powered off, press and hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons, then press the POWER Button to turn the console on.

Keep holding down the volume buttons until the menu for recovery mode appears.

Once in recovery mode, select “Restore Factory Settings Without Deleting Save Data”.

Read through the information, then select “Next” > “Restore Factory Settings Without Deleting Save Data”.

Nintendo put out a new patch to fix it, 20.0.1.

Currently playing The Invincible on my PC. I'd describe this as very close to Firewatch in terms of gameplay and it serves as its main inspiration. It's based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem. You're an Astrobiologist stranded on an alien planet and you explore it in search of your missing crewmates.

Finally managed to finish Baldur's Gate 3, after holding off on the epilogue for more than a week after finishing the last boss fight. I wasn't ready to let go just yet as I've grown so attached to my character and all my companions, knowing the only way forward is to start all over. My beloved Shadowheart landed the last blow on the final boss and I couldn't imagine a more fitting end for my playthrough that often felt like she's the actual main character and I'm just happily tagging along. I thoroughly enjoyed the endgame, from the almost comedic length of the cutscene with all the NPCs I've assisted proclaiming their support, to the variety of challenges posed by all the battles until the end, and, in typical gamer fashion, I've only realized after the dust had settled that the super-duper, mega-powerful unique single-use scrolls I've saved for the big fight are still sitting in my inventory unused.

I was afraid that the epilogue would be just an endless stream of crying on my end, but I might have been to tired to experience that, and I felt mostly happy and proud of what I've accomplished, seeing the impact I've had on all these people's lives, with a dash of floating bliss watching my character's romantic interactions. I went to sleep with a huge smile on my face, with the epilogue background music (titled Endless Spring) being stuck in my ear all day today. I listened to it after work, and yeah, cue the waterworks. My eyes are still misty. I still can't believe it's over.

My wife is on her 4th or 5th playthrough.

I'll just need to let the emotions wash over me, I already know what character build I'll be playing next

But first I'll probably just upgrade the game to the latest patch and play around with the new photo mode, which will probably keep me from starting a new game for a few weeks or so.

I liked the ending. Only thing that was a little bit disappointing, is that I helped everyone with their quest. At the end Karlach needed help and I was the only one who wanted to help her. I couldn't do anything to prevent Karlach getting back to hell, so I went with her.

I was lucky in that Wyll immediately offered to go with her, and the epilogue consequently teased a deep, potentially romantic bond between the two. Wyll mentions he's met his father a few times in the past six month, so travel from and to the Hells seems to be possible. With Karlach talking about the planned heist on the infernal forge to fix her heart, I chose to headcanon that my character immediately offered her help when the time comes. It would've been a perfect storyline for a potential DLC and it also could've provided a closure for Wyll in letting him confront Mizora on her home turf, but I fully understand and respect Larian's decision to deem their story complete and not wanting to keep working on it as a boring chore only for the money.

So I just finished The Invincible, and if you've enjoyed Firewatch, you'll definitely enjoy this. Great story. I'll definitely have to read the novel that this is based on. Similar gameplay to Firewatch, especially with the communication, but it's a much larger game with much more exploration. With the novel having been written in the 60's, the game really leans into the 60's sci-fi aesthetics, and offers up a very Trek-like experience. It feels like a Starfleet away mission at times with all the exploration you're doing, and you even have a tricorder-like device with you.

I played a bit of N64 Shadowman last night. I think I got about 2/3 of the way through it back in the day.

There's a re-release but I've gotta have that janky framerate for my nostalgia kicks.

Well nobody in my team offered to help Karlach, except me. I was a little heart broken because Karlach is the only person in my team who is always positive and nice to everybody. And when she was scared because had to go back to hell and nobody wanted to help he except me I was a little bit disappointed.

Finshed the first campaign of Tempest Rising, a clone of Command & Conquer for nostalgia sake ( and because it wasn't that expensive).

Second campaign will have to wait until i finish the new DLC of Mecharrior 5: Clans ( Ghost Bears, yay!)

Nintendo says it could brick Switch systems if users “bypass, modify, decrypt, defeat, tamper with” their games in updated agreement

Yikes. Wondering if this is what happened to innocent people recently via the updates. And I wonder if people who innocently got hacked Pokemon from others would/could be affected by this.

The game key card thing for Switch 2 has potential to be a fraudsters dream come true. Sell a fake key card, get user to download file thinking it’s a legit game and now you have access to their console to bot and/or steal all their info. All Nintendo has done there is made it easier for bad elements to direct customers away from legitimate servers and annoy anyone who likes physical media or has ever been without Wi-Fi.

But more directly to Nintendo’s statement… I have a real problem with any company claiming ownership of hardware post sale. It should be against the law in every country for a company to intentionally brick anything. It’s no different than a hacker setting off malicious code on a company’s servers. The hardware isn’t theirs to fuck with once it’s been purchased. It has been acceptable for far too long for companies to act in this way.

This goes far beyond consoles and what we think of an electronics. Remote kill switches in all manner of products including cars is beyond acceptable.
