ENT is my fave even though I'm aware of its flaws. I'm liking Discovery so far even though I don't think it's a very goos show. So, I guess that's the consistency.

TOS is my favorite, with DS9 a close second.

Thus far, I'm enjoying DSC more than any other series that I got to see in first-run (TNG through ENT).

I'm a TOS fan and I love DSC. It's interesting that TOS fans are the second largest group of DSC supporters in the poll.

For me, one thing that I love about DSC that I also loved in TOS is the realistic personality conflicts that occur, and that the characters learn to transcend and appreciate each others' differences and work together for their common goals.

So far, DSC is the show that I am enjoying most -- only behind TOS.

Voyager is my favorite series, and I chose that I dislike Discovery. Though I would say that dislike is a bit strong, I'm more lukewarm or neutral at this point, trending toward dislike.

I definitely prefer my Trek to be an idealistic vision of a more perfect future, where we've solved some of today's biggest problems and we can instead focus on the pursuit of knowledge. There is definitely an argument to be made that Discovery is a more realistic version of Trek, but I do not watch Trek for it's realism. If I want to watch people be assholes and war breaking out, I can turn on my TV to any number of other channels. I watch Trek because it gives me hope that life, and humanity, will be better one day. I want to believe that people like Picard really can exist, because it gives me something to strive for and model in my own life.

I'm not seeing much in Discovery that makes me feel hope for the future, or presents any heroes that I'd like to emulate. It's a well made show, I just feel sad that while this is being made we aren't getting a Trek series that is more optimistic, fun, and hopeful.

I could have written that :) I mean you wrote my thoughts!

Thanks everyone for voting so far. Star Trek fandom has changed so much with the release of each new series and it’s interesting to see which side of the fandom prefers the new series. So far it seems to be a hit with the TOS fans and the DS9 fans

No surprise whatsoever. TOS and DS9 are essentially cut from the same cloth, regardless of what "timeframe" they take place in. Adventure, dynamic characters, optimism without utopia, ethics/morals without assured outcomes, dramatic conflict, willingness to explore darker themes while still maintaining core values.

It was apparent almost immediately that TNG/VOY fans were going to be the ones who hated this most. In nearly every comment online (here notwithstanding) it was clear where the divide was in the fandom.

As a TOS/DS9 guy, I definitely wouldn't have hated a more TNG-like series, though. I would have been bored and disappointed...but I don't think I would have hated it out of the gate.

The positive thing is that it's a tribute to how diverse Star Trek really is.

For me the jury is still out, and I'm not sure what I think of Discovery, like or dislike.

After the failure of Nemesis it's doubtful that we'll ever see a TNG like Star Trek again. Every move the franchise has made since then has been an attempt to distance itself from that era.

My ranking, and this is so hard to do because I love it all goes...

1) DS9
2) TOS (I include TAS and movies in this all together)
3) TNG
4) ENT/DIS (truly equal and similar in tone so far in my mind)
5) VOY

I have a pattern. I have the same reaction to each episode of Discovery that I had when first seeing ST:2009. First viewing is wt heck was that? 2nd viewing is wow, how great is that? I think my many years of Trek baggage gets in the way and it takes some time for me to get used to the new and then I finally love it. A good journey, though.

Enterprise was made because they(the producers) wanted/needed to do something different, even though the studio wanted to do a show like Voyager set after Voyager.

The reboot films were made for brand recognition, like every big Hollywood film of the last ten+ years.

And Discovery was conceived as an anthology show. They (Fuller & Co) again, wanted to do something different, so they pick an incident mentioned in the various series, and season 1 is a Klingon war, season 2 is in the TOS movie era, season 3 in early-mid 24th century, season 4 in the late 24th century.

So no, I don't think there's any creative push to avoid the TNG era.

That whole TNG, DS9, Voyager era was hugely popular. I hope we get a post Voyager series one day, get things back in the right direction - forward.

God I hope they revisit this idea and do future seasons of DIS this way. Season long arcs passing through Trek eras until finally getting to post Nemesis ST.

I would love to see a whole season set on early voyages of Rachel Garrett Enterprise C.

A season set among Utopia Planitia ship workers thats more of a post Wolf 359 working class drama would be amazing.

Anthology Trek is probably the way to go for this show. Especially if Burnham and Discovery become classified in Section 31 archives anyhow, their story most likely comes to an abrupt and violent end.

I've been assiduously avoiding spoilers for the last year (I avoided TBBS like the plague between autumn 2016 and now), so I'm as pure as driven snow when it comes to actual knowledge of the conception and direction of the show.

This is interesting. Do you mean to say that in the 2nd season, DSC will fast forward to the TOS movie era with new characters (or updated characters as in age, etc)? If that's the case, then in Season 3 (if we get it), they'll have to have brand new characters, right?

Can you point to me to some links where I can read more about this plan? (Now that i'm hip-deep in all this stuff anyway :p)

I am Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite show on the Citadel

you keep fighting the good fight with ENT :D

I also love ENT, but it's kind of like loving a child who's deeply flawed but you want them to be okay and appreciated by other people and ultimately succeed in life, ya know? ;)

And, now, of course, it's like loving a child who died in adolescence. The possibilities will never be realized. So it's bittersweet. Say what you must, but ENT had some great episodes, especially in Season 3 and 4.
