What does Geordi see in a holodeck?

I'd wager he can, but "chooses" to see the program being generated. He's explained how he can select which information he wishes to pay attention to from the visual cacophony of his VISOR-vision.

Can he see the walls?

The walls are still there in a physical sense covered by whatever "illusions" created. So it's very likely he could see the walls/projcetors as well as whatever was infront of them. It's also possible that the characters created by it didn't have the "life" in them a real person would have (I think it was suggested once that Geordi saw an "aura" around life forms) I think it may have also been suggested or implied that Troi didn't get much out of the holodeck since she could make no empathic connection with the characters on it.

It would've been interesting if TNG's creators and writers had "thought this out" a little more and said that Geordi couldn't enjoy or out-right disliked the holodeck since the illusion was lost on him by being able to see the "real" walls and having no "life aura" around the characters. With that in consideration, one wonders how he got so attatched to Leah on the holodeck.

Wouldn't he see most of what everyone else saw, since the holodeck uses transporter technology to form stray matter into various constructs?

Geordi has many times been shown (mostly through dialogue) to see things behind the things. He should therefore see the energy of the holoemitters behind the "projected" "holograms" on the wall and there's also the fact that the "life-forms" in the holodeck being little more than "meat puppets" he shouldn't see in "life aura" around them.

Both ruining the illusion for him.

Actually, it was vice versa: in I think "Heart of Glory", he says there's a certain glow around Data to indicate that he is an android.

One wonders about "Ship in a Bottle". When Data first suggests to the Captain that they are still trapped in the holodeck, "La Forge" (a holosimulation of him, but Picard doesn't know that) is present. Why does Picard start to inquire Data about this thing, if he could just ask LaForge to take a look around and verify or debunk Data's theory on the spot?

Then again, perhaps Picard still doesn't know all the specs of the VISOR or LaForge's abilities. Certainly the thing about android glow came as news to the engineer's coworkers in the first season.

Maybe the holodeck can tie into Geordi's visor and show him the proper illusion(as translated through his visor) as well?

Doesn't Data first come in or point out that they're in the holodeck when LaForge uses a PADD with the wrong hand? Further, Picard probably remembers first entering the holodeck to visit Moriarty with Data and thus concluded that Data must be the only other "real" person around.
