I love it. I used the same title for a fan story universe once. I think having the dual meaning to the name is pretty neat.
It's very generic. Star Trek: Shipname has been done three times (Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise) officially and in a quintillion fan films.
The title "Star Trek - Discovery" fails to imply something new and bold.

I like the name. I feel Star Trek should be more about discovering new things and species rather than wars. Who knows what the new series will hold, however.
Voyager is another name with a great space history and conjures up traveling and exploring pretty well. I like Discovery better though. If you just look at it as a name and not an in-universe Star Trek thing, it really does give off the same vibes as the USS Enterprise. USS Discovery sounds instantly memorable and grandiose, unlike the starship Voyager or space station Deep Space 9.
Maybe, the captain can go all Capt Ahab crazy in pursuit of some critter almost destroying the ship and crew and finally blowing up half a planet to kill it?The announcement says "new villains", so obviously they will be discovering conflict.![]()
Yes hehe, that's true. I suppose villains add a "fun and games" aspect to the discovery. The announcement says "new villains", so obviously they will be discovering conflict.![]()

Makes me think of the mini-van.
The Voyager program is possibly mankind's single greatest achievement. So far it's the only thing other than radio waves that has anything approaching Star Trek's deep search into the unknown.

Then it should be the first thing you think of.
I know about Voyager. It doesn't change the fact that it reminds me more of the mini-van.
