How do you feel about the name Star Trek: Discovery for the new series?

I was really curious to see what the name of the series would be, and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I love it. Discovery captures the essence of Trek while paying homage to an actual space shuttle. It also just sounds nice, I think because I prefer the one word subtitles like Voyager or Enterprise.

If you don't like it, why not? What would you have preferred?

I like it. Don't hate it, don't love it, but it's OK. Out of everything we know so far about the show, the only thing I could say that I "love" about it is the music in the short trailer. That was awesome.

I love it. Discovery was the name of one of the space shuttles, and the space ship from 2001. I would have been okay with Challenger, Atlantis or Endeavor too.

Neutral. I think it's a bit too predictable. Another spin-off named after the ship or setting.

Alphabetical order places it above the others, if that counts.

So break it. First Star Trek show in years. Although reportedly a continuation of the original universe, it's going to have to be different from the past, or those 13 episodes are all it will last. Call it To Boldly Go. Try another descriptive word or words that evoke what the series is about, without sounding like Star Trek: Voyager II.

I bet there's already a fan-film called Star Trek [Colon] Discovery, because it sure sounds like it's been done.

Stand back from being a fan and look at the back catalogue of Star Trek: Same Old Shows. Does that spin-off title stand out from the crowd? Then again, perhaps it doesn't need to, if it's aimed online solely at an existing fan-base. CBS are showing the pilot, so there's hope of appealing to beyond the hardcore.

Endeavor would have made for both a good ship and series title. Challenger is still too sensitive a topic, I think. Many would conjure unhappy sentiments right away. Atlantis makes me think of the ocean, not space. Also while I could see both of these names being used for the ship, they wouldn't really make sense for the series name. Discovery is great because it evokes a sense of wonder and exploration, perfectly Trek!

    I like it a lot.

Not only does it echo the space shuttle, but the theme of discovery is itself a core component of Star Trek. Boldly going to explore the unknown. It works quite well.

I was hoping for Odyssey, but Discovery is just as good, if not better.

And I'm extremely happy they didn't go with just Star Trek.

It's great! I only hope the show matches the promise of the title.

Great name. Couldn't think of anything more Trek. Hell, "Discovery" more Trek than "Enterprise."

Atlantis wouldn't have worked. Stargate Atlantis and Star Trek Atlantis would have been too similar.

As much as I have many [many] reservations about this new show, the name isn't one of them.

I love it. It is a very 'Star Trek' name.

Let's hope the series is true to the name.

    Love it!
Discovery was the first to fly again after each shuttle tragedy.

Certainly not bad. Just derivative and unoriginal.

Pretty neutral, it's like Star Trek Voyager, pretty straightforward.

I have an idea how the first 13 episodes might be named. They might switch the order of episode titles though...

    1: Motion
    2: Wrath
    3: Search
    4: Voyage
    5: Frontier
    6: Discovery
    7: Generation
    8: Contact
    9: Insurrection
    10: Nemesis
    11: Star
    12: Darkness
    13: Beyond

It's very generic. Star Trek: Shipname has been done three times (Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise) officially and in a quintillion fan films.

It's alright and at least continues a trend in naming the shows.

I would not say I hate the title but I definitly don't like it much. After more than ten years without a new series I thought they would chose a title more similar to "The Next Generation" instead of the generic "Star Trek + ship/station name" combination. The title "Star Trek - Discovery" fails to imply something new and bold.
