What Crime/Mystery/Thriller book are you reading?

So awhile back I posted that I was reading a book called The Meaning of Night and its sequel The Glass of Time. I had hoped that there would be a third book, especially since it was hinted that there might be.

It turns out we'll never get it. I just read that the author, Michael Cox, has died. :(
They (the publishers or the estate) might get another author to write it based on whatever notes Cox left behind.
Possibly. But it wouldn't really be the same. *shrug*

Picked up Killing Floor, the first of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books this week for 50p. I already had One Shot but hadn't read it yet, and also picked up The Hard Way and Bad Luck And Trouble for 50p.

Now, I don't have the seven or eight books between Killing Floor and One Shot (yet!) but I'm guessing that Reacher's leave-no-trail drifter nature is set up to make all the books sufficiently standalone. Can anybody tell me if that assumption is correct, or do I need to read in order (which will mean waiting till I find the others)?

They're pretty much standalone. The only possible exception to that, is that I'd suggest reading Tripwire before its successor, The Visitor. You might be a little puzzled by Reacher's status at the beginning of TV otherwise, plus TV might be considered to have a mild spoiler for its predecessor. Otherwise, there's no great spoilers or implications for other novels throughout the rest of the series. Happy reading, they're great fun.

Cool, thanks for that. Reckon I'll start on Killing Floor tonight

ETA- or tomorrow - Tonight is watching-The-Goodies-night at Chez Magpie

Thread bump.

I'm going to get around to reading the Reacher books when I'm done re-reading Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta and Kathy Reichs' Brennan series.

At the moment I am reading Cornwell's The Body Farm.

Hi,

I am very fond of reading books. I am now started a new novel "Dashiell Hammett: The Maltese Falcon (1930)" in this moth. It is very interesting and I recommend this to all.

Thanks & Regards

Since this thread was first posted, I've read more Lee Child, more Robert Crais, a Stephen Hunter and quite a few by a guy called Adrian McKinty, who I'd strongly recommend, particularly his 'Dead' trilogy, featuring Michael Forsythe. Am currently reading Halfhead by Stuart McBride, which is a sort of sci-fi thriller.
