What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Spock was half human but also we are talking about Roddenberry at two different points of time in his life.
They started out with Spock as Vulcanian, full stop. Later on they introduced that he was half human.

Spock was easily the most popular character on TOS. I would have expected Roddenberry to conclude that an alien among the crew was a good thing, not something to be kept in the background.

Not exactly. We weren't given any information on him in "The Cage", but in "Where No Man..." it was introduced that he had human blood in the family, then in "Corbomite..." (first production episode, though aired much later) we learn he is half-human.

Yep. I believe he said one of his ancestors "married a human female" or something like that, during his 3D chess game with Kirk. Half-and-half got codified after the second pilot.

Yep.

The relevant dialogue from "Where No Man..."

KIRK: Have I ever mentioned you play a very irritating game of chess, Mister Spock?
SPOCK: Irritating? Ah, yes. One of your Earth emotions.
KIRK: Certain you don't know what irritation is?
SPOCK: The fact one of my ancestors married a human female
KIRK: Terrible having bad blood like that.

The relevant dialogue from "The Corbomite Maneuver"...

SPOCK: However, it was well played. I regret not having learned more about this Balok. In some manner he was reminiscent of my father.
SCOTT: Then may heaven have helped your mother.
SPOCK: Quite the contrary. She considered herself a very fortunate Earth woman.

They knew pretty early on that Spock was part-human.

Thanks to Chrissie's Transcripts!

TUC was the film that was closest to the TV series in my opinion and the only one that didn't make me feel that the crew were far past their prime
