I admit that chiming in to disapprove of people chiming in (on a board specifically created for the purpose, yet) seems, well, a little tangled in knots — but it also happens a lot.
EDIT: While I enjoy continuity porn as much as anyone else, I’m increasingly coming to the opinion that “Star Trek stories” should probably eventually switch over to the approach I see in some fanfilms (like the rather good Loreley, over in Fan Productions) — maybe there’s bits of Kelvin and Prime and whatnot in there, but who cares: what matters is a good story, and humanistic evergreen Star Trek values, not the color of the toothpaste. Basically, we eventually move to the model that Robin Hood stories, new Sherlock Holmes stories, Arthurian stories and Superman/Batman stories outside of The Official DC UniverseTM have: where there is no canon, just a field, but one that nevertheless remains recognizable.
It won’t happen for a while, of course. But in the long run, it’d be nice.
