Time for the snobby, pedantic Italian to chime in!

The term pepperoni is a corruption of peperoni, the plural of peperone, the Italian word for pepper. To order the American version of pepperoni in Italy, one would request salame piccante

Now this thread is Italian-compliant!

Now, the million dollar question is "Does our hifalutin Italian friend like the stuff?"

I will say, I'm not a fan of spicy food. Salame piccante is nice, but in small quantity. For sandwiches, I prefer salami: especially salame Felino and Finocchiona (sorry, links only in Italian). As a pizza topping, I prefer plain Italian sausage.

And I must confess, I had to find "hifalutin" on the dictionary because I had no idea what it means. Wikionary gives the meaning as "Self-important, pompous; arrogant or egotistical; tending to show off or hold oneself in unduly high regard". Which is actually quite accurate!
