What are some of your guilty pleasure movies?

Brandonv

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Dune (1984)
The script is a mess, but I can't help but watch it every once and a while. I really like the visual style of the film (except for the over-the-top Harkonnens). There are some really cool looking set designs and costumes, and I think the special effects still hold up today. I like the soundtrack too.

Equilibrium
The gun kata thing is ridiculous, but I can suspend my disbelief because it makes for some cool and unique action scenes. The story isn't terribly original either, but it works. A good performance by Christian Bale, and solid music score too.

Underworld Trilogy
I can definitely see why these movies are not liked by critics. I can't help but like them though. I think they have a pretty cool and well thought out mythology, and I like the atmosphere of the movies and the visuals. It is mainly just the first one I like, but the other two are okay also.

"Big Trouble in Little China".

"Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins".

"Top Gun". What can I say, I'm totally into gay beach volley.

^ I'll second Top Gun, Dune and Equilibrium from the above choices.

I just rewatched ID4 earlier this evening. The first half is so-so, but the second half is still a major guilty pleasure. Everything from when the dog hilariously jumps over all the cars in slow-motion to escape the fireball in the tunnel, onwards. Especially the OTT final battle with the President flying a fighter jet. :techman:

Dune and Top Gun for sure.

Conan the Barbarian

Batman the Movie

Superman III and IV -they suck but it's still Christopher Reeve Superman

Road House - this is the best movie to watch with a group of guys and some beer.

Starship Troopers: Idiotic premise and bad acting, saved by incredibly awesome bug killing.

Big Trouble in Little China is a guilty pleasure, iguana_tonante?

Why feel guilty about enjoying a great, and under-appreciated movie?

The guilty pleasure movies in my collection are... Rescue from Gilligan's Island and Willow.

It's all in the eye of the beholder.

I don't feel guilty at all about loving Willow.

Guilty? The '98 theatrical "Lost in Space". Space battles, rogue robots, alien bugs, time travel, and pretty much every sci-fi cliché they could manage to fit in there, to say nothing of the colour-by-numbers dialogue (also, Penny was hot). If only the movie had been done ironically, it could have been something I could really embrace... as it is, one should brownbag the DVD.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

300
Broken Arrow
Commando
Constantine
Independence Day
Last Action Hero
Max Payne
The One
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 and 2
Transformers: The Movie (1987)
Tremors
Underworld 2

Wouldn't exactly say I was guilty about them though.

Some of mine that come to mind:
- Cliffhanger
- The Long Kiss Goodnight
- Cutthroat Island

This makes it seem like I am a Geena Davis fan - but I'm not really. But Renny Harlin makes great action films of this type.

There are others but my mind is blanking...

Since I seem to rewatch at least part of it everytime I go past it while channel surfing, Resident Evil Extinction. The other two films, not really.

Tank Girl - there aren't enough post-apocalyptic action comedies

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory - DIE HARD on a train...seems like a limited idea, but it's one of Seagal's better efforts.

Starship Troopers: Idiotic premise and bad acting, saved by incredibly awesome bug killing.
+1

I actually watched it last night with the wife. She was complaining about how bad it is, and I'm like "yeah, that's what makes it great."

Add to that:

-- Hackers . Even when it was new the way they present computers were so bad it's good.

-- Pump Up The Volume. I guess if made that one today it would be Post the Podcast or some such. Great overly melodramatic 90s teen angst, down with the establishment movie. Plus Happy Harry Hard On, best troll known to man.

-- Heathers . See Pump Up The Volume.

-- Heavy Metal - Hard Rock, Blue Oyster Cult, and animated naked chicks...uh what was I saying again, I had to wipe the drool off the keyboard.

-- Macross: Do You Remember Love. Until recently, I've only see it via thrice dubbed VHS bootlegs, so it holds special memories, plus it's a pretty good movie.

Oh god, you must be the long lost brother I never knew about. I was coming here to post about Hackers and Pump Up the Volume. I got into amateur radio thanks to HHH. I even tried to get a vanity callsign of KC7HHH. Didn't pan out though. HACK THE PLANET!

I black "Pump Up The Volume" for my addiction to Black Jack Chew Gum. And "Hackers" for yelling "Hack the gibson!" whenever someone bitch about their computer not doing what they want.
