What are some of your guilty pleasure movies?

I don't think "Heathers" should be considered a guilty pleasure. It's a legitimately excellent movie. Very original, with strong acting and an important (powerfully conveyed) message about the difficulties (and dark side) of adolescence. I love "Equilibrium" too. In fact, I like it more than many other supposedly better Dystopia future movies like "Blade Runner", "Nineteen Eighty-Four", "Escape from New York", "Farenheit 451", and "Brazil".

Some guilty pleasures of mine, on the other hand, are clearly horrible and the main reason I still like them is nostalgia from seeing them as a child - "Broken Arrow", "Time Cop", "Universal Soldier", and "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective". I think I'll always have a soft spot for those corny, one liner-packed over-the-top super MANLY action movies. :)

Wing Commander.........Loved the games, better space battles than NuStar Wars

Dune..............It got right things that the miniseries got wrong... and vice versa

Krull..............Wow. Great, great adventure story, especially when you're sick or hung over

Almost any Godzilla/Gamera movie.......... 'nuff said.

So many of mine are already listed...

But not two of the bigger ones...

Howard the Duck and dun dun dun dun FFFFLLLLLAAAASSSSHHHHH... er, Flash Gordon.

Guilty? The '98 theatrical "Lost in Space". Space battles, rogue robots, alien bugs, time travel, and pretty much every sci-fi cliché they could manage to fit in there, to say nothing of the colour-by-numbers dialogue (also, Penny was hot). If only the movie had been done ironically, it could have been something I could really embrace... as it is, one should brownbag the DVD.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

You forgot exploding spaceships, floating holograms, crashing spaceships, overwrought production design, magic disappearing space armor, obvious CGI overkill and freaky alien environments. Unless that falls under "every sci-fi cliche imaginable." :p

Now I have to go watch this movie again.

Not Another Teen Movie- In my opinion a very underrated dead on satire of every cheesy teenage movie ever made.

Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death- Known now mostly because Bill Maher stars in it, but in my opinion a very underrated satire of the feminism and male/female relationships.

Deathstalker 2- The only good movie Jim Wynorski ever made and he only good performance Monique Gabrielle ever gave.

Quest For The Might Sword- See kids you too can make a big budget sword and sorcery epic for just under $500. You don't even need an actual script either just make it up as you go along.

Highlander II - Awful sequel, OK sci-fi movie in it's own right

Class of Nuke 'Em High - Troma greatness

The Howling - Not that guilty actually, an fun, imaginative if cheap werewolf movie.

Class of 1999 - Robot goes crazy in a school, nuff said.

Hardware - Robot goes crazy in apartment, nuff said.

Moon 44 - Very early Roland Emmerich film. Does not blow up the Whitehouse, yet still manages to be awesome. Sets and props knocked off from Aliens, but atually looks good for a cheapo space movie.

The 1980's FLASH GORDON.

THE BEAST MUST DIE: an old seventies werewolf movie loosely based on a James Blish story.

Big Trouble in Little China is a guilty pleasure, iguana_tonante?

Why feel guilty about enjoying a great, and under-appreciated movie?
Well, i agree it's an under-appreciated treasure, but it's far from hight arts. Thus, I consider it a bit of a guilty pleasure. The Big Mac may be delicious, but it's no nouvelle cousine. ;)

I always wondered if 'sinanju' was real... :vulcan:
Karate, Kung Fu, Ninjitsu - they are but shadows. Sinanju is the Sun.

:techman: Basil Pouledouris music even!
Basil Pouledoris's Hunt for Red October soundtrack is my favourite soundtrack ever.

FFFFLLLLLAAAASSSSHHHHH... er, Flash Gordon.
What a great movie, and what a great sountrack as well! :techman:

Lots of movies that I like listed here. (That Fifth Element thread had me worried).

Interesting that you list DeathStalker II and not the first movie! It's schlock but "comely" schlock!

Pump Up the Volume gets my vote.

The Replacements. Best K. Reeves film ever(?)- no, but I can't help but watch it.

Remo. "In Korea, door handles do not fall off.":guffaw:

Hackers- gloriously stupid "Hack the Planet!"

And being a manly man I like to watch manly movies like...Pretty Woman.:alienblush:

Oh, and Damnation Alley. When the giant roaches attack my day is made.....

Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion

I'll watch it everytime it's on.

Interpretive dance to Cyndi Lauper... what's not to love?
