wesley crusher should be punched in the face.

Punching him in the face is way too good. Here's what he deserves....

I hate Tasha Yar instead. I don't know why.
I know why I don't like her, but I'm not sure it will apply to you. If you're unfamilar with roleplaying games, you might want to skip this:

She's like that person who shows up for the start of your roleplaying game campaign, makes a character and allows the character to become fully integrated into the campaign while playing for a session or two, and then decides that it isn't for her and she'd rather go play paintball or something on game days. Which leaves you having to quickly rearrange some things in the campaign and write her character out by killing her in some quick and utterly weak way, like with a random (tar monster) encounter.

This analogy works pretty well for why I don't like Jadzia Dax or Will Riker, too. She's the opposite. She's that person who plays almost to the end of the campaign and then quits, at a point when her character is far too integral to just write out (but thankfully, you're able to find someone else to finish playing her character). And he's like the person who sabotages your campaign so everyone can hurry up and play the one he wants to run, because it is just so uber. ;)

But Wesley is more like the DM's pet character. He isn't really one of the players, he's annoying, and he can be used to railroad the players or as a deus ex machina to bail out the players at any point. He makes the game unfun, but that isn't really his fault - it's the DM's (writer's) fault - and eventually they're going to have to have him ascend to a higher level of existence and leave the players behind, just to get him out of the way so the players don't kill him.

i wonder if will wheaton ever looks back on the episode when Q made him an adult and his character was all hot and buff, looks at himself at the mirror, and is like "craaaap... way to miss the mark on that one, casting."

Maybe he should hire that guy or someone built along the same lines to stand in for him at the next Trek convention.

"I grew up. I filled out."

I don't hate Wesley but he's definitely not my favorite character. I hate Tasha Yar instead. I don't know why.

tasha yar lost my support after i saw symbiosis where she gave that that lame speech about drug abuse to wesley crusher. god i wanted to smack her, but then i gave her points for hooking up with data. so i guess it's a wash.

I liked Wesley just fine when he was well written. Unfortunately, that was a rarity. I'd be more inclined to punch the writers in the face, though.

Aside from the more saccharine sweet moments, I really liked Wesley.

I never had a problem with Wesley, certainly never wanted to punch him in the face, but his character was a bit shallow at times. Even to me who grew up with TNG. But then again, I think it'd be hard to have incredibly intricate and planned out personalities for every character, I guess he just drew the short straw in that department.

I liked when he got stabbed by a viscous animal thing lol

That line always makes me LOL, it's so unTrek like. It's right up there with the line in the Flash Gordon movie when Aura is asked how they are from somewhere-or-other, and she says something like "7.4". That's fine but 7.4 what? Miles? Kilometres? Lampshades?

Yeah, that drug speech was silly. Was Nancy Reagan a guest writer on that episode?

ha! she probably leaned on the network to insert some antidrug sentiments in various shows. sadly, the trek was not immune. :(

Wesley Crusher vitriol about two decades late.

^ :guffaw:

During the first season of TNG, Wil Wheaton received more fan mail than any other actor on the show. :)

That is hilarious! I can't imagine that at all.

I don't think the writers liked him either. Wesley got:
-slapped
-told to shut up
-got stabbed
-almost got sentenced to death
-his 'girl friend' wasn't humanoid and its protector almost killed him...
Thats all I can think of right now.

"This is Wil Wheaton from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Just say no. Avoid the temptation."

1701 points for anyone who knows what that quote is from. ;)

Yeah. Wes got slapped in the face in Sarek by his mom.
That's enough.

Wesley was poorly written most of the time. Even Wil Wheaton's gone on the record saying he'd like to kick Wesley's ass. That said, I'm about Wil's age so when TNG first aired I had a bit of a crush on him. That said, he improved no end in the second season when his mom left Enterprise for a while. I'm surprised he wasn't more obnoxious, can't be easy to be a teen if your mom treats you like you're still 8 years old. A wunderkind maybe, but still a kid. Many Wesley centered episodes were poorly written in the sense that the rest of the Enterprise crew was more obtuse than could reasonably be allowed, Datalore is a prime example.

I'm not a Dr Crusher hater by any means (Pulaski was terrible though), but I can't stand the way she treated Wesley.
