so there's this big nerd hard on in my area for everything wesley crusher. i just hate wesley, i want to punch him in the face every time he has a scene. remember when he released the nanites into the enterprise and got a slap on the wrist? picard needed to lay the smack down, or at least let riker have a go at him. you have no idea how awesome it was when beverly smacked his face.

i realize my hatred of all things wesley is irrational and i am okay with that.

uck, agreed. re: jonathan brandis on seaquest. the ladies loved him as well, despite how much he sucked.

Wesley Crusher was awesome. I loved Wesley Crusher when I was a young boy growing up watching TNG. I used to see the bridge and the crew and all of the adventures through Wesley's perspective. I used to imagine myself being Wesley and I'll never forget the time he got his first full proper uniform and when he walked onto the bridge as an Ensign it was as if I was walking on the bridge as an Ensign. I was very shocked when I started to view internet web-sites and I saw all the anti-Wesley comments come from TNG fans and how Wil Wheaton even tried to distance himself from the character. Wesley was a hero and a role-model to me growing up and if it wasn't for Wesley and his decision to go through the ranks in Starfleet I doubt very much that I would have chosen the career I did and lived the life I have.

At least he wasn't the uber-goody-goody they made Wesley. He seemed almost like a real kid.

I used to get a kick in the 90s out of standing up on stage at conventions and mocking the Wesley Revenge Squad - bunch of fat bois would get all red in their faces. There was this one guy at a con in Miami as late as 1994 who just spazzed out over it - he must have been like seventeen when TNG premiered and he'd been nursing this outrage against the character for seven years.

OMG, thanks for the laugh! Sounds like those boys had some big personal issues to resolve, but holding a grudge for seven years...I am speechless.

For me, Wesley Crusher's character is quite disappointing, as his role had great character development potential. After watching the first season of Wesley earn Picard's trust and respect, I was hoping to see him grow and develop throughout the series; but making him as a know it all child left little room for him to learn from the rest of his crew mates.

However, I do think his character was a great contrast to Picard's character in regards to that it would have been interesting, I think, to see an episode of Picard's experience vs Wesley's intelligence. Kind of like Kahn's intelligence vs Kirk's instincts.
