I could never do that. Just reading anything childish in public makes me cringe. In public I hide my comics like playboys.I was reading an Elfquest comic during lunch at work one day back in the 90s, when one of my older coworkers stopped by. He said "You're reading a comical book?" I happened to be on the chapter with Wendi Pini's beautifully drawn PG-rated Elf orgy scene. I handed it to him and said "Here ya go."
His eyes went wide. "They've changed since the 50s."![]()
Awful how so many childhood “friends” weren’t, isn’t it? Trust me, you weren’t alone.Yup. I remember going into middle school wearing my Star Trek VI shirt with the Enterprise flying over Chancellor Gorkon's face and getting made fun of mercilessly. Same when the Scholastic bookfair rolled in and I bought the Star Trek VI novelization and one of my "friends" wrote "100% CRAP" on the inside.
Funnily enough, these same "friends" are the ones hitting me up now wondering if Strange New Worlds is good because they liked Anson Mount in Hell on Wheels![]()
The worst it ever got was one kid at summer camp who decided to tease me relentlessly because I read comic books. But he was just an asshole.
@Forbin Elfquest. That brings back memories. The comics are long gone but I think I still have the novel packed away somewhere.
Not one of the graphics novels but the actual novel Journey to Sorrow's End published in 1984.Yup, I have the graphic novels saved in a comic box.
No, that would be me.Probably the same person eats up Marvel movies these days.
I laugh when I hear Mario ringtones too. I find it very fun. Hopefully it wasn't all meant as embarrassing laughter. Many moons ago I was in New York City and I got a call on my cellphone (which had the TOS communicator noise as a ringtone). I was just coming up out of a subway station on Lexington Avenue. When the people around me heard the ring, they all laughed at me.![]()

Sorry, I'm sure but I get chuckles out of people's ring tones all the time, especially when in session.I can't speak to what it actually meant (since I'm not a mind reader), I only know it sounded like they were laughing AT and not WITH.
Maybe it was the Yankee's jersey? Many moons ago I was in New York City and I got a call on my cellphone (which had the TOS communicator noise as a ringtone). I was just coming up out of a subway station on Lexington Avenue. When the people around me heard the ring, they all laughed at me.![]()
