Were the Borg Ever in DS9?

I thought they were just mad because the creators of the movie originally wanted to destroy the Defiant? It saddens me that the TNG and DS9 crews didn't work together more. I like both shows almost equally now and I would have loved to see more crossovers than just the paltry one we got in "Birthright, Part 1". It would have been so cool to see more crew members from the two crews interact than just Bashir with Data and LaForge (such a huge fanboy thrill for me now that I'm into both shows, although at the time I didn't appreciate it) and Sisko with Picard.

I wish we could have seen Sisko forgive Picard at some point too, after how harsh he was when they met in "Emissary". And seeing Data interact with Jadzia Dax would have been as exciting for me as Data and Spock's all too brief, but delightful conversation in "Unification" was. Even after TNG was off the air, they could have had characters guest star on DS9 between movies.

Perhaps the biggest wasted opportunity due to lack of camaraderie between the DS9 and TNG producers was that we had to get that waste of a movie "Star Trek: Insurrection", instead of a kick ass story about the Enterprise's involvement in the Dominion War.

Eh, well considering how the snobby attitude the DS9 team hold towards TNG it's not surprising they didn't use the Borg. It's like how they were PO'ed that the Defiant was used in FC at all.

Well considering Ron Moore was involved in both I don't know if I'd go that far. But I'd be interested to know who really wanted it destroyed in the first draft, Moore or Braga.

In fact in the first draft of "Birthright" the Bashir part was supposed to be Jadzia. But couldn't happen because she was shooting "Move Along Home" if I recall.

After BSG I'm more inclined to believe it was RDM:devil: but its possible he realized that The Defiant was just like another character on DS9. That and someone would have to explain why it wasn't there in the series.

Yeah, I heard about that! What a waste! We had to miss out on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Data and Jadzia interact (pretty much my two favourite Star Trek characters, although I might tie Data with Picard as second favourite) so she could be in that silly episode! :(

Maybe Ron just wanted to get his original name of the ship as the Valient in sooner and not give it to a bunch of self entitled brats. ;)

It would have been great if they had a crossover where Picard and the Enterprise showed up on Season 6 or 7 of DS9 and then the Enterprise gets blown to smithereens by the Dominion due to Picard's incompetent combat ability.

Would work on so many levels: providing a crossover, showing that the Enterprise was doing more than jack all during the war (which really, it wasn't, with what they did do in reality); showing that Picard's peacenik tactics don't work in reality (which would provide good continuity from the TNG episode where he said combat is a very small part of being a Captain and he doesn't like having to do combat exercises for that reason); and most importantly, showing that unlike the nefarious way Picard is portrayed as a superior man to Sisko in Emissary, really, Sisko is the superior man to Picard.

Berman would have shat a brick.

I do have to agree that Picard's general combat abilities were less than stellar, but Janeway's were so ridiculously over-bloated and un-cunning and downright stupid there must have been some middle ground somewhere. lol

There's only two ways to fight in the Star Trek universe: Attack Pattern Omega and Attack Pattern Delta.

Heh, Picard would've shown most of the other Fleet ships out there how to REALLY fight. And would once again demonstrate that Picard can kick @$$ with the best of them when he has to, just most of the time he's competent enough to not have to resort to that.

Though, we really should a betting pool for how long it takes in a TNG/DS9 thread for Navaros to show up and give off the usual eh folks?

I'm with you - my ideal story for what Insurrection SHOULD have been is the battle for Betazed. Since DS9 established it being taken by the Dominion, it would have been a good occasion for DEANNA to take center stage, being part of a strike team to liberate the planet. The novel 'The Battle For Betazed' does a good job of covering it, but still, I would have loved to have seen it on the big screen.

Wouldn't surprise me if the DS9 team probably would've objected to the Dominion being used in INS because they didn't want to waste time referencing INS during the show.

What? Are you referring to some quote somewhere or just snarking at the DS9 crew? Besides, that's a silly thing to say when the events in INS really had no bearing on DS9, but the Dominion had a bearing on the entire AQ.

It's just as well that the Borg didn't show up past the pilot. Knowing the DS9 writers, someone (main cast) would have gotten assimilated and not come back.

Actually I think it was the other way around. As in they didn't want to waste time in a TNG movie enlightening the non Niners what the hell was going on.

Behr wasn't POed that the Defiant was used. He as POed because it was originally going to be destroyed in the movie.

Whatever the reason for not using the Borg, it was the right decision.

Only they did reference details from Insurrection on DS9.

Yeah, the Son'a get name-checked in a late episode of DS9, which tied into the line in Insurrection about how they've done work on ketracel white production or something similar.
