Watching ST4:TVH right now

They needed something lighthearted after the very serious SFS.
..but Scotty kinda pissed all over the time line with the transparent alluminum thing.

Or, as was pointed out in the movie itself, he might have aided in maintaining the timeline.

That film had an Ocean's Eleven feel to it. The actors were in on the gag, and enjoying themselves immensely, but they didn't spoil the fun for the audience by letting on overtly. Very deft touch; it's hard to create that atmosphere without coming across as smarmy. See, for example, Ocean's Twelve or Ocean's Thirteen.

I'm so disappointed in myself that I didn't come up with that parallel.

I just got the dvd from Netflix today. Have only seen it on VHS before... nice Menu...
If anyone has comments or tips on what to look for... post away... it will be like watching it with friends. :vulcan:

I don't have the DVD version, and I am extremely remiss in not having it. 1986 was a more innocent movie going time for me, and STIV was the best movie experience of ANY kind. I saw it twice and both times the atmosphere in the theater was almost magical.

Yeh...might...and it might have had a horrific domino effect on the timeline

Apparently the primitive Macs of the period either blew up and he lost the data, or the guy got in a car crash and no one ever looked at the info.

But within the context of the Trek narrative itself, everything was restored to normal thanks to Scotty's efforts. Everything beforehand had happened, the events of the previous movies were still in effect, continuity was maintained. We even had a happy ending. Perhaps Scotty didn't really "piss all over" the timeline after all. Occam's Razor.

Also: wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.

Guys, there was a question in Spock's mind test about who invented transparent aluminum. It was Nichols! :D

"Everyone remember where we parked!"

Genuis

Thats the only part of the movie that bugged me, I dont live in the USA but I'd imagine ANY public park in a major city....someone would have smacked into the thing while going for a jog....and this would happen alot....and it would get alot more attention that two garbage men...

The best part is when Kirk explains Spocks odd behavior by stating he had taken a little too much "LDS" at Berkeley!

Eh. It wasn't on a jogging trail or bicycle path of any kind, nor apparently in the middle of a sports field or anything like that; it was just a nondescript area of a good-sized park. And they were only there for a day and a half. While someone would undoubtedly have run into it eventually, supposing that the landing legs would go un-collided-with for that time isn't so great a risk.

More likely is someone noticing the divots, which were visible at a distance, although given that they were rectangular it'd be awfully easy for park-goers to write those off as the start of some planting or maintenance project and not worth much attention.

You'd think the helicopter would draw interest, but, you know, when a city is big enough all sorts of peculiar things are going to happen. I was (quite honestly) in Manhattan a couple months ago and saw Spider-Man walking down 45th street, drawing absolutely no interest from anyone.

I live two blocks from the aforementioned park and no way would an open area as big as shown in the film not be visited by lots of people on sunny days as portrayed in the film, and more than a handful of people would have run into it.
