I hear ya... Lovely film. Probably the most fresh Trek of them all.
Deforest Kelley was brillant. His dialogue with spock in the beggining is priceless.I'm really enjoying the interaction between Scotty & McCoy.It also reminds me that we lost 2 very good actors who's chemistry on screen was fantastic!
I have to stop to feed mom (she's invalid). I'm paused where Gillian drops Kirk off after dinner.
Good spot to zoom in and slo-mo.

That movie is so much fun!
Great movie -- and the whole point of the "nuclear wessels in A-LA-ME-DA" is still just priceless to this day. 
That and the "Will you all break up? You look like a cadet review!!" line...

That film had an Ocean's Eleven feel to it. The actors were in on the gag, and enjoying themselves immensely, but they didn't spoil the fun for the audience by letting on overtly. Very deft touch; it's hard to create that atmosphere without coming across as smarmy. See, for example, Ocean's Twelve or Ocean's Thirteen.
I very much like the TVH Kirk, as opposed to the bombastic one of Generations. Shatner is a better comic than dramatic actor, as Priceline has figured out.

I loved this movie as well. My favorite scene is when Kirk accidentally goes out into traffic and this guy goes: hey watch where you're going, you dumb ass! And Kirk says: Well, dubble dumb ass on you!!!!!!! I think he also starts throwing gang signs at him too...HILARIOUS!!!!! And the part where Kirk looks around trying to find Spock..and he's in the whale tank mind melding with those whales!!!!

Agreed with all the comments... it's one of those movies who's comic aspects wear well with time. So many of the character interactions we always loved about the cast are still there in this movie.
I also believe this movie spawned more quotable lines than any other. Spock's learning of colorful vernacular actually made me clean up my own language! My grandmother always said, "Foul language is the last resort of people who can't use proper English." She had a good point, IMO.

I'm also watching this movie right now on HBO Family on my TV. 
I was just stating in another thread just how much I enjoyed this movie and how much I loved the comical reliefs of McCoy and Spock. I am wondering if this movie helped to influence the saving of the whales thing later on???
Favorite parts of the movie: The punk rocker on the radio.
Spock gave him the vulcan neck pinch to shut his ass up!
When Kirk and party get to San Francisco and accidentally run into a taxi cab:
cab driver: hey watch where you're going, you dumb ass!
Kirk: well, double dumb ass on you!!!!
And when they were at that institute and Spock was in the water mind melding with those whales. The look on Kirk's face when Spock was missing was priceless!!!!!!!!!!
I don't care what anybody else says about this movie..I really enjoyed it. It's all positive and about saving the Earth and humanity!
