Was Capt Kirk a "BAD" guy?

If he had just grown up and shown some phucikng [emphasis mine] maturity, there is no limit to what he could have accomplished.

What's the point of this? If you're going to use the word, why not spell it right? Just say "fuck".

Also, just because someone isn't as puritanical as your uncle doesn't mean they're lacking maturity.

To be fair, TOS was pretty preach for its time
True... they were morality plays disguised as Sci-Fi. :vulcan:

Agreed 100%.

Also, who's to say that the model bad captain was Kirk? There was at least one other captain from his era that better qualifies: Captain Ron Tracey. And who's to say there weren't other captains from that era who went off their nut the way Tracey did?

I wanted to posit a thought about Picard versus Kirk. We don't know what kind of commanding officer Picard was when he was captain of the Stargazer. It would seem that he was in the vanguard of exploration and not close to any home base, either. So he probably flew more by the seat of his pants then. Don't forget the Picard Maneuver, after all.

Therefore, I submit to you that the younger Captain Picard was probably more Kirk-like, judging not only from the way the ship's missions were described, but also the view we got of the young Ensign Picard being a macho hot dog. The Captain Picard we saw was a more seasoned commander, tempered by his experiences.

And while the older Kirk was still unpredictable, he also had the air of a seasoned commander when he tells Saavik, "You have to learn why things work on a starship," as he and Spock explain how they're going to use the prefix code against Khan.

Y'know, I think the PC age of Trek was only around during TNG. Come DS9 and Voyager, things were already different. When Janeway confessed that she would have liked to fight side-by-side with Kirk and Co., all I could do was give her a hearty "Hell yeah!"

TNG was more about how a society that started off as PC slowly became more grittier and realistic as time went on. This was more apparent once the Cardassians showed up.

Oh, he wasn't a puritan, my grandfather's brother was an episcopalian.

Anger Management class:
Instructor- most who have anger issues give off warning signs, use those to know when you're getting angry.
Me- I don't have any warning signs.
My two buddies- "The hell you don't." "We always know when you're getting angry."
Me- You do?
Them- "Yeah, you start cussing."

My grandma said the same thing. She's was from New Bern. Are we related?

Don't entirely disagree, I'm just not clear on how spelling it with a "ph" instead of an "f" really makes it less profanity.

Spelling it that way to get around a word filter is understandable, but it doesn't make much sense here.
