Was Burnham still alive at the beginning of TNG?

Somehow I don't think their gonna go that deep into the "aesthetics".

Yep. They have a different vision for Trek, that's fine.

Though the 60s aesthetics are canon for the Prime Universe shows. Trials and Tribblelations, one of Trek's more memorable eps, references them in detail, even in the dialogue.

I suspect as per "Calypso" there will be a time jump involved at some point down the line... she may be "in transit" during all later Trek shows.

That would make the most sense.

If STD is meant to be a reboot/reinvention/retcon of the Prime timeline, then it's fine.

If they want to somehow awkwardly align Discovery with 60s Trek eventually, then nah. I can't imagine Burnham, Tilly, Owosekun, etc running around in mini-skirts a few years from now, and blending into the aesthetics and tone of 60s Trek.

Just have the Discovery disappear into another dimension by the series end, if they want to somehow transition the universe to 60s Trek and beyond.

They are better off just keeping Discovery as it's own separate thing, without aligning it to TOS and the rest.
I'm thinking DSC Pike's canary uniform with the asymmetrical collar, shoulder details, and zipper is meant to be the TOS-style uniform worn by Kirk most of the time. If that's the case, then the skirts can change as well without (IMO) the show being a reboot.

Well it's a reboot or retcon of TOS then. Some might feel TOS needed to be retconned, others may not.

It's controversial, but TOS had 50 years to remain very 60s-esque. Eventually, it was going to be rewritten and retconned.

Though I'm someone who prefers the beauty, tone and aesthetics of TOS, I recognize that some others will find a lot of dated imagery and concepts in the series.

I don't think we need to declare something a "reboot" just because they tweaked the art direction and costumes. As long as the big picture stuff remains the same, we can chalk any aesthetic changes up to artistic license.

But if want to call it a "visual retcon," fine. Doesn't mean it's a whole new universe or continuity or whatever.

When in doubt, just remember those aren't actually "uniforms," they're costumes. Those aren't actually phasers; they're props. And there's no such thing as a "real" Klingon. Etc.

Though.. it would be interesting to see STD flash forward to the TNG era.

Can’t be a post-season 1 DSC Klingon, no hair.

Commander Nhan in S2E1 is wearing a Skirt (although not the same colour as her top), but Number One in the promo images is not. Though she also didn’t in The Cage.

It might be a personal choice, not regulation.

Also there is a BTS video that appears to show Nhan wearing a skirt version of the blue DSC uniform.

Why do you think there is going to be a time jump? Nothing in Calypso implies that
Welll...

We do know the name of the sixth episode is "The Sounds of Thunder" which could imply some kind of Time Travel is at the least, again being brought up this season.
Not sure that has anything to do with "CALYPSO" though.

Yep. Some hair magically fixes the Klingorcs.

Nhan is wearing a skirt. All the female officers of TOS wore Miniskirts (from Corbimite Maneuver onwards), like 60s Gogo dancers.

Maybe that will be back in fashion in a few short years.
