Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Spinning the world backwards to undo the whole movie IS still goofy and campy...

Yeah but it's all relative. Compared to what people thought superhero movies were at that time, the movie Donner wanted to make would have been revolutionary...

That's not what happened. The world appeared to turn the other way, because Superman was moving backwards in time. Superman didn't spin the world backwards; he turned back time itself.

DC films have a mixed reputation here and pretty much everywhere I've ever been. Personally (and I think in this case I'm more or less typical) I really like about half the Batman movies, as well as Man of Steel and obviously Wonder Woman. And I think Superman Returns is pleasantly watchable. Watchmen was decent, too. I've never seen the original Superman movies, though (in that respect I'm clearly atypical). Once you leave that territory and start talking about the other movies dc/wb have made, it's honestly kind of difficult to find good things to say. I certainly hope for a future where that's no longer the case.

Why, for the love of God?

Especially since you mentioned you "obviously" liked Wonder Woman -- Superman (1978) was Jenkins's acknowledged inspiration and model for her brilliant approach to that film. WW even directly homages Donner's classic at a couple of points.

*I'm assuming by "original Superman movies," you're referring to the Christopher Reeve films, and not the oft and unjustly forgotten true first Superman feature, Superman and the Mole Men.

It began as a WB/DC film thread for fans. Pretty quick it turned into Disney/Marvel Troll Central.

Or fans that know the potential all of these movies have because of their love of the comics and the characters that, for many varied and often personal reasons, they feel they didn't get with some of the recent movies.

It's like that phrase about being easier to hurt the ones you love.

So are DC films hated here as well? Would be nice to go to a place where they aren’t.

I probably like more of them more than I do most of the Marvel movies. Marvel has better quality control per item, rather in the same way that a MickeyD's cheeseburger is reliable - you know it will always be the same, and if you like that kind of thing you won't be disappointed.

Availability, really. Somehow I never saw them in my childhood (except a part of the third or fourth one - something about a bar fight). If I want to seek them out now, I'd have to pay for them and I'm not going to because Superman's never been my favorite character anyway, and I've got plenty of other superhero movies to watch. If they were at my library, I'd borrow them right off, but they aren't. Maybe someday they'll show up on Netflix, but until then, I'll be watching other things.

I've never seen the original Superman films either, largely because I was not really a fan of the character prior to the release of Man of Steel.

You guys are causing me actual, physical pain.

i am with you on that... did we ever do a poll to see who has issues with the DC FU but really enjoy the Arrowverse, and feel like THEY understand the DC characters & fans more than the execs with the DC FU.

I enjoy most of the takes. I actually enjoyed BvS on a second viewing (extended edition) though the theatrical one was rather awkward.

I've enjoyed all of the DC movies, as I mentioned in another thread, they're not exactly what I'd want as DC adaptations, but I've still enjoyed them as movies.
I do enjoy both MCU and Arrowverse more though, and I'd probably put most of the DC animated movies above them too. If those were all 9s on a 1-10 scale, I'd probably put to DCEU movies at an 8.

You mean he traveled back in time to undo things? Or he somehow reversed the flow of time, ALL TIME, itself?

Because if it's the latter than he cannot lose. He controls time.

There is no difference, but your latter point is correct. It was a very silly plot device.
