Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Researched Justice League on DVD last night, and although it was flawed and had a weak soundtrack compared to MoS and BvS I did enjoy it.

I know Aquaman is still happening, and I'm looking forward to it, and I know theyre pushing on with non-DCEU stuff like the Joker origin thing, but what's the latest on the other JL spin-offs? Ezra Miller was great, it'd be a shame if Flashpoint was shitcanned.

Despite the fact that the same kind of thing happened in the most well-regarded of the original Superman films... and also in the comics. There's apparently been a lot of that missing the point stuff going around.

There's only ever been one truly good Superman movie, which is the original Donner one. And even that one descended into over the top camp as soon as Luthor showed up.

I think Mark Miller had it right...DC's more archetypal characters don't really translate as well to screen.

The only good Reeves movie was the first one, and even that one had its problems. WW was more boosted by the fact it was the first good DCEU film...take that away and it's more an 75% RT film than anything else.

I agree with those have noted how bad Luthor is in those films.. even at age 5, i really did not like Luthor as a Villain..and recently looking at some scenes, I have even greater appreciation of Eisenberg's Luthor.

The bolded is a "requirement" imposed by the reviewer(s) and is in fact a mistake based on the actual definition of the word "adaptation".

If you're trying to judge an adaptation by now faithful or unfaithful it is to its source material, you're not actually judging it as an adaptation; you're judging it by how well it functions as a translation.

Anyone else agree on this?

For me, i have a broader definition of "source material"...which includes other media (in addition to the original comics) which might be considered "definitive"... so whether it is hearing a ghost of the Supermna theme in Krypton, or how the CD FLash series draws on elements from the previous series, or the shout outs in Raimi's SPider Man... i consider it "source material"... and again, it doesn't have to be an exact "translation"...just showing that the creators know what made previous generations enjoy the hero, and even if there ar emajor differences, it still evokes the same good emotions

It's got directors officially signed on (again ) and is rumored to be the next one to enter production after WW2, probably by the end of this year.

Wait..are we actually talking about the subject?? Thanks for the update... i am still not confident if it will go through

No, you just flatly refuse to accept the fact that any definition you subscribe to might not be 100% accurate, that any definition you don't subscribe to can have any validity at all or that any definition can ever change. In other words, you're right, no matter what, and anyone who disagrees with you is wrong, no matter what. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

And dictionaries and encyclopedias are actually pretty much always based on usage, so I have a strong suspicion that your suspicion is totally false.

QFT.

Speaking of which...

You know how long the "endless" Superman vs. Zod fight really lasted?

Guess.
"The last 45+ minutes of the movie being action set-piece after action set-piece and brawl after brawl—combined with a relatively short denouement after the climax—left some fans weary."

^ It is not possible to make changes to the source material - which is what adaptations are supposed to do - and maintain the "feel" of said source material; the two concepts are completely incompatible.
Sure it is, Marvel is great at it. When I'm talking about "feel", I'm mainly talking about themes, tone, and just way that it approaches the characters.
I've said this a couple times before, but the closeness to the source material is not the only thing I judge adaptations on. I can enjoy a bad adaptation if it's a good movie overall, but I still prefer they stay closer to the source material.
The Marvel movies are perfect examples of what I'm talking looking for in adaptations. They don't recreate the comics panel for panel, but they feel like the comics.

Well, its probably a bad idea to post jokes that will still end up being 1000x better then the final product.

I'm not a big fan of DC films but even I have to roll my eyes at this drivel.

Yeah, saying it is only 1000x better then the actual product was probably an estimate that was way too low, so I get the eye rolling. Its just a random amount of zeroes, the final product is probably the kind of shit you can't quantify with numbers anyway. I suppose when someone who isn't qualified to be an intern on a movie set makes a movie about a character that DC hates so badly he hasn't really existed even in the comics for 12 years and makes the movie in the environment that produced Batman v Superman, you really can't express the amount of shit adequately with words or numbers.

I don't like the DCEU that much, but even I think you're taking this a bit far.

I have not even begun. My favorite superhero first got fucked over by DC in general starting in 2006, then by Geoff Johns specifically in his second JSA run and the New 52 reboot, and now the DCEU is dragging his corpse into a shitty film by a guy who has only made bad horror sequels and with a film based off the 2011 character assassination of Captain Marvel. At this point, Bill Parker and CC Becks bodies have spun so fast in their graves that they've drilled through the earth and are now floating through space.

There is literally no superhero movie that has been released or will be released that could realistically infuriate me as much as this one. Not Fant4stic, not "New Mutants", not Batman v Superman, or even SM Homecoming or Logan. The original Captain Marvel my favorite Superhero, and I've been dealing with this dragging him through the dirt since The Trials of Shazam was published in 2006. 12 years without anything even remotely related to the original Captain Marvel except the Shazam: the monster society of evil mini series, which was good but it was an alternate universe kiddie book, so its not really the same as a normal Captain Marvel story. Technically there was also grant Morrison's multiversity one shot, but that was Morrison being a fucking creep and making Captain marvel jr. being aroused by georgia Sivana a thing, so fuck him and that creepy one shot. That's not even mentioning what DC did to Mary Marvel in Countdown or Final Crisis.

So, "Shazam" is a movie released by the worst modern superhero movie producing studio, based on the single worst thing featuring the character in his entire 79 year history (Johns 2011 reboot stuff), and its technically a version of my favorite superhero. I have never been as pissed off about a movie based off something I like as I am this one. So, I'm going to end up voicing my opinion on it as different things make the news, and (spoiler alert) I will never have anything positive to say about this gigantic pile of shit.

Wow, a shitty d-list actor is defensive about his shit costume. I mean, the costume is near the bottom of the list of things that suck about that piece of shit movie, but its funny in a really pathetic way to see the guy lash out at people. I guess when you're easily the least famous, and the least skilled, actor of any of the main casts of the DCEU, you have to be loud to compensate. It must be hard to know that even hacks like Eisenberg and Leto look like spectacular actors next to Chuck, and were also in better superhero movies.
