Why bother with a skin regime when you always wear a mask? The eternal conundrum...

Oh, massive spoiler for TFA, BTW!

Booster Gold's movie will not be part of the DCEU. I wonder if he had the opportunity if Berlanti would make it part of the Arrowverse. Would it be too confusing for the non comic book fans to have two separate continuities in the movies at the same time? We've got at least two TV universes right now, the Arrowverse and Gotham, so obviously people are able to accept two unconnected universes on TV.

I wondered that myself.

And of course in Marvel there's the MCU and the X-Men universe, plus formerly there were the two separate Spider-Man universes. And, heck, plenty of people in the general public don't even understand or care about the difference between Marvel and DC; it's all just superheroes to them. So having Superman and Batman be in a different universe from Iron Man and Thor is no different to them than Iron Man and Thor being in a different universe from Wolverine and Professor X.

Well that's good. Hopefully that means we'll get a more lighthearted Booster Gold movie. He's definitely a character that really wouldn't work with the DCEU's dark, grim tone. Not that he can't have serious stories/moments, but the character himself doesn't really fit in the kind of universe the DCEU has set up.

Between this and Shazam, I'm starting to wonder if WB is looking for some kind of backup if their shared universe doesn't perform the way they want.

I think you're reading too much into this, smaller off-beat comic book movies seem to hit the crowds well(Deadpool and Suicide Squad both preformed very well this year), and they're just naturally looking to get in on that.

Also, he began that sentence with "As of right now...", since the movie is still very early in the development process that is obviously subject to change.

Seems likely. All along, they've been largely reactive, trying to emulate trends and shift gears in response to outside factors rather than being committed to a clear, consistent vision.

May be because I'm not really familiar with these two characters. They don't seem to me, on the surface, as the kind of characters that you would turn to for that effect. Not to mention, Deadpool and Suicide Squad clearly didn't need to be out on their own to succeed.

But, of course, anything can change still.

“Mistakenly in the past I think the studio has said, ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.’ That couldn’t be more wrong,” Johns told the WSJ. “It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he’d make tomorrow better, he’d stop.”

According to the WSJ, after the backlash that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received, Warner Bros. made the decision to oversee their DC movies more closely, and hired Geoff Johns and Jon Berg to run their DC Films division. Warner Bros. employees also spoke about their reaction to that backlash:

While they knew the movies had flaws and expected them to be controversial, Warner executives were taken aback by the overwhelmingly negative responses, people at the studio said. They believed they had created more grounded, character-based stories that, like “The Dark Knight,” would favorably stand out from chief rival Marvel Studios’ consistently successful but fluffier fare such as “Avengers” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Justice League was always going to be less dark than Batman v Superman, but Johns and Berg worked with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio to make changes after seeing everyone’s reactions.

“We accelerated the story to get to the hope and optimism a little faster,” said Berg explained.

Except from an interview in the WSJ. Read here.

Next thing you'll be telling us will be something far-fetched such as, oh I don't know, that perhaps you know J.K. Simmons, the new James Gordon, only as J. Jonah Jameson from the Raimi Spider-Man movies. :shifty:

You mean Master Tenzin? And the Law & Order psychiatrist? And General Eiling? And the Farmer's Insurance guy? In fact, I recently rented two movies from the library, Kung Fu Panda 3 and Zootopia, and he turned out to be in both of them -- the villain in the former and the mayor in the latter.

Why would it be far-fetched that I'm not that familiar with Manganiello?

Yeah, Manganiello really isn't at quite the same level as J.K. Simmons. I've only seen Manganiello in CSI, True Blood, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, White Collar and based on what Christopher said the Raime Spider-Man movies. I actually had no idea he was Flash Thomspon in the SM movies, so before Christopher's post I had thought I had only seen him in True Blood.
Simmons on the other hand, I've seen in the Spide-Man movies, Law & Order, Thank You For Smoking, Juno, Extract, Spin City, John Doe, Without A Trace, Arrested Development, Raising Hope, and heard him in Zootopia, Avengers: EMH, and The Legend of Korra.

Who was Manganiello in HIMYM? I don't remember him at all from Raimi's Spider-Man, and that would be the only other place I've seen him.

Oh, Manganiello was in White Collar? Then I've no doubt seen him there as well.

Yeah, I looked it up, and I remember the episode now. I have a vague sense of who he was there, but not clearly.

It's not far-fetched that you're not familiar with Manganiello. I'm not that familiar with Manganiello! The (failed) joke I tried to make was that Affleck's Batman movie now has 2 actors from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films. I wonder if there will be a 3rd. Perhaps Thomas Haden Church as Roman Sionis? Or Elizabeth Banks as… she'll be great in anything really! ;)

Batman's girlfriend.
