Warner bros announce superhero films through 2020

Look, I'm not going to debate with you on this granular level, because it's missing the whole point and because it's dragging the thread off-topic. My point was not to nitpick individual details, but to use them as just a couple of examples of a systemic problem with the movie. It's the overall context that makes those examples problematical to me -- they're symptoms of a disease, that's all. I'm talking about the overall problem with Snyder as a filmmaker and the overall problems that creates for the DCEU as a whole -- which is what this thread is about.

It's best to just tune out the deep, infantile bias of @Christopher posts. He's been embarrassing himself for some time on this board now and is generally viewed as something of a hack.
No, I wouldn't say most people think he's a hack. I think many of us would agree he's a very knowledgable fan... but the issue we have is when at times sound condescending and closed-minded to certain views.

Certainly, as of late, we have had our "fun""discussing things like how essential Superman's "trunks" are to the visual aspect of the character

I would say that he contributes more of relevance to the discussions than most. I have never, EVER, considered his opinions to be "infantile". That is a laughable statement at best. Stubborn, maybe. But "infantile"? Ridiculous.

As for his being a "hack", if that's a swipe at his books, I actually consider him to be in my top 10-15 Trek novelists ever, and I've been reading Trek lit since the late 70s.

I would say that he isn't the one embarrassing himself.

Everyone has opinions - Christopher's get more notice than some because his posts are much longer. :D

And it's even better to let it go and not flame the guy. Comments to PM

Snyder piles on the grimdark and bombastic without relief. If he allowed pockets of lightness and relaxation into his movies, they'd be much more watchable.
IIRC, there was lightness and relaxation in his first movie, the remake of Dawn of the Dead - there had to be, what with all those fast zombies - and it's maybe his best movie to date: a strong story, likeable characters, and a third act that was suspenseful, action-packed, and made sense. (It's also his least mannered movie, by far.)

I agree with all of this. I think it helped that he had a good script.

I think Zack Snyder is a good director when he is working with a good and finished script with a great story (like in Watchmen, 300 and Dawn of the Dead). But when the script has plot holes or he is developing it, forget about it (like in Batman v Superman, Man of Steel, Sucker Punch). His visuals alone won't save the film.

I'd say he's reasonably effective at slavishly copying something that already exists, but pretty poor at creating anything new. Or at giving substance or meaning to the things he copies the superficial form of.

We could say that in the case of Watchmen and 300 Snyder had some of the greatest "storyboard" artists/writers working for him! ;)

The "Snyder just doesn't get it" narrative was already in full swing with Watchmen, so it ultimately doesn't seem to matter if he's working from a script based on an already established great story. It's decreed that he "doesn't get it" the moment he shows up.

Flash script has just gotten a revision by the director

Notice the Funko Pop Flash figure on the page, but who is the other figure? Is it Cyborg???

Which isn't to much of a surprise since they've already said Cyborg is in The Flash movie.

Completely agree on all points here, Orion's Hounds is one of my favorite books. Even when I've disagreed with him, I can admit he still makes some good points.

Asa Butterfield was almost Spider-Man, but now he's expressed interest in a DC role.

Your name was mentioned many times online as the potential new webslinger. Are comic book films something that still interests you as an actor?

I always try to keep my options open – I think playing an iconic role like Peter Parker or any of the others, it’s always going to be difficult because you have a lot to live up to and to really own these characters who many people love and adore. To be given an opportunity to give your take on a character like that and something that you love is great. On the other side of the coin coming up with something totally original is just as fun because you get to start from scratch and create a new character which may well become iconic itself, you never know. I think Tom Holland did an incredible job, I think he nailed it.

Are you more a DC or Marvel fan?

DC honestly – just from the comics and the cartoon series. I like the grittiness of DC.

Would a role in the DC Extended Universe be something that may peak your interest? Looking at you, maybe playing Robin or Nightwing would fit?

Don’t jinx it! I’m maybe a bit too tall for Robin and about the same height as Ben Affleck but maybe someone who’s taller and sleek and a little sneaky!

They went younger with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Maybe you could be the new Riddler, he’s tall and sleek!

Stop, you’re getting me excited!

Are you a fan of the new DC films, Batman v Superman, etc.?

I’m a big fan and I’m really excited to see Justice League!
