Vikings - Season 4

She's no Lagertha in a fight, but Kwentrith did pretty good for herself. Judith should turn out to be quite the card if they follow something like Judith of Flanders who was Aethulwulf's wife.

Bjorn's little hunting trip, though. That's getting away from it all.

That episode was all over the place in terms of locations and individual charcater's stories - everyone but lagertha! No Lagertha at all!
:wah:

Except for the missing Lagertha that was a great episode. I was on the edge of my seat during the battle in Mercia.

That may have been Kwentrith's idea or it could be the show reflecting Anglo-Saxon women having wider opportunities than women had after the Norman conquest? The Mercians did have one ruling queen, Aethelfled, after the death of her husband. Did pretty well for herself in fighting the Vikings, too.

The women were just the immediate minders for the queen herself, weren't they? I think they were there to keep her in, not to keep fighting men out.

And we haven't even gotten to the massive screw job in Wessex, yet. A whole bunch of betrayal there with Aella and Ecburt not to mention Kwentrith.

I don't remember anything in Wessex in the premiere. Did I miss it somehow? I actually fast-forwarded through the entire premiere again last night just to see if I missed something the first time around, but . . ..

Me am confused.

I was thinking of last season when the Viking settlement was wiped out. Ragnar's going to get wind of it sooner or later. Hence, Ecburt insisting on creating a standing army rather than the old call up the thegns since that was too slow to deal with raiders like the Vikings.

Ah, thanks. I was afraid that the maybe the premiere had run overtime and my DVR had chopped off a scene in a Wessex or something.

As for this week's ep, that whole assault on the tower sequence was great. I loved Aewulf fighting the guard at the door, while trying to dodge the heavy objects being thrown from above . . ...

That was a good scene, but I was wondering what became of the guys on the roof, there. I don't think the archers got them all, and I was expecting them to come down to make sure Kwentrith was dead. I've got to go back and look, but were those Mercians supposed to be Kwentrith's turning traitor on her or were they working for rivals holding her hostage?

Ewww, now that was nasty, Bjorn.

Looks like Ragnar's gonna get hooked on the funny stuff....

Nice to see Rollo making up for lost time with that consummating the marriage thing.

Ragnar's Opium Den, Little Amsterdam of the future. Bjorn is becoming quite the man to fear. Rollo and Gisla, well that moved quickly. Clive and Morgane carried that very slim material getting from 'I want a Divorce' to 'La Vie en Rose' pretty well but I wish there had been more depth script wise to that whole transition. All and all a good episode.

I'm a little vague about how much time is passing between episodes and seasons at this point...Ragnar's younger kids sure are growing up fast.

Rollo's fluency is a bit much given how poor they made his understanding of the language earlier. However, he has been in France for almost a year by now, at least. He likely could have picked up vocabulary maybe even some essentials for very basic actions, give, bring, go, etc. Not enough to communicate with any great fluency but with a teacher he could start putting the language together in a shorter time than someone starting from scratch. It would have been nice to have shown something like that. It would have made the transition seem more credible.

The show has a lot of stories in the air. I hope they can cut some of them down so they don't become as thin as this Paris arc for Rollo.

Needs more shield maiden.
Katheryn Winnick is constantly posting videos on facebook of her daily martial arts workouts (in a lovely black leotard! :adore: ), but Lagertha has hardly even been in the show this season, much less seen any avtion.

Well, last week's episode surely made up for it, didn't it?

BTW, Frankish king Charles III is also known as Charles The Simple...
;)

Ragnar was told almost as soon as someone could get back from England. He immediately murdered the messenger, a loyal subject, so that he could keep everyone focused on the Paris raid. It's when I stopped watching because it had turned into Sons of Anarchy in boats, with the same amount of pointless butchery and making the principal characters twats to make it 'edgy'.

At the time of Lindesfarne in 793, Ragnar and Lagertha were about 30. Bjorn was 12 at the time so 30 is a rough estimate. The Paris raid is 845 making pushing 80 or so when he killed the messenger. He's, probably, just a senile bastard lashing out by then.
