Vikings - Season 4

Any thoughts on our mid-season finale? Another big time jump is interesting...and Rollo certainly seemed to be increasing his status in Paris, it'll be interesting to see how much he's changed when the show gets back to him.

The scene after the time jump with Bjorn and Floki almost felt like a series finale but much is left hanging.
My prediction for the future: Bjorn will reach the Mediterranean, Rollo will prosper in Paris, Ragnar will return to England (we know there must be another meeting between him and Ecbert, the only person besides Athelstan he felt this kind of connection to) and we will witness the beginnig of Ivar's rise.

I thought the transformation for the Emperor was interesting. Seeming so weak when we first saw him to the confidence in the end was quite a change. We spend very little time in Paris so the story is very open to interpretation there. I guess he felt surrounded by schemers like Odo and Roland. Rollo provided a leader who wasn't up to his neck in backstabbing plots and with a marriage to Gisla and a child on the way was increasingly bound to Charles and Frankia. Charles gets a loyal fighting leader and Rollo gets the recognition he's always wanted.

What could happen next? Hints are in the promo for the second half of the season this fall.

Some of the time skips are kind of jarring. It's almost like a form of Braveheart syndrome (Wallace aged so he could be played by Mel Gibson, but most of the other adult actors didn't seem to age much at all). :p

On Friday, I had the opportunity to read the first issue of Titan Comics' Vikings comic book from Cavan Scott and Staz Johnson. I liked it. Scott captures the feel of early season three pretty well. I think it's due out week after next.

I was saddened to see our Chinese "Emperor's Daughter" die. I liked her. I wonder what might come when the Chinese get wind of that.

But that might leave her open to taking part in our new ST series!

So where has Ragnar been for several years, and, more importantly, who's been shaving his head?

I was under the impression that she wasn't really an emperor's daughter, Ragnar was coercing her to say that because it turned him on.

Either way, if anyone back in China had some means of keeping up on her whereabouts, it didn't prevent her from being enslaved in the first place.

I thought she might have been sent.

I so loved how the same actor who played the Viking seer/shaman also played the Pope (John Kavanagh). Subtle form of symbolic irony there, I'm thinking. :D
