They're gonna mess up the established Monster Maroons in the TLE era, aren't they.
Mess up?They're gonna mess up the established Monster Maroons in the TLE era, aren't they.
Oh, I quite like the term fanwank, but I usually use it in the context of how I quite like the fanwank.I have often found the other side of any discussion of returning characters to be quite toxic as well. The terms "memberberry" and "fanwank" are dismissive and rude.

Totally with you on memberberries though.
Which is how most Legacy talk goes. "You don't like the idea? ToughI used to like it myself. But I've found it used way too much in Doctor Who discussion, so instead of being fun and inclusive it's largely turned dismissive and mean.

Cheaper, not as hot, easier to distinguish eras.I'll never understand why they thought they should get rid of the white turtlenecks.

After 30 years in the fandom you'd think I'd get use to it.![]()

I get Kingsmen vibes from his character. Not really interested in seeing him as a lead for a series. He’d do better in a Jason Bourne like series.

To be fair, all the Nu Trek shows have been relying too heavily on 'callbacks' lately.
Star Trek needs a fresh canvas for a new audience. This upcoming 'origins' film is probably their best bet for a clean slate.
I guess it depends on what ones values in a series. I think there is more than enough room in Trek's vast repository of storytelling for multiple ideas. Were I push back is that "this is the only way to do Trek."Well, I'm glad I haven't been in/seen much discussion about it since Picard ended. This is the only place I talk about Star Trek though, so maybe that's why? Though I also don't peruse the board much in the off-season.
Everything in film and TV has. Not just Trek.
You don't need a clean slate. You just need a good show, a la TNG.
I trust your application is in to Paramount?I think at this point, a clean slate is the best way to build a new, younger fanbase from a business POV.
It doesn't have to be a reboot, but a logical entry point for new audiences that doesn't require having existing knowledge of the Trekverse.
We are at moment where the Star Wars movies have yeeted themselves into development hell, so there's space for this new Star Trek film franchise potentially. If done right.
Probably why I like the character.
Kingsman and Bourne is more my style.
To be fair, all the Nu Trek shows have been relying too heavily on 'callbacks' lately.
I believe it's because they've realized these streaming shows are only playing to the existing aging fanbase.
Starfleet Academy seems to be their last ditch attempt to try and build a new audience. It won't work with a YA series.
