And it from Luc Besson to boot...
Just gorgeous...
I'm sorta familiar with the comic it's based on, though been a while since i read any of them...

I would be very happy if this was another Jupiter Ascending, but then I'm in the very small minority who like JA.
I'm not familiar with the comics, but I love The 5th Element, so I'm really looking forward to Besson doing another big crazy sci-fi movies.
The trailer looked amazing, so I think even if the story isn't that great the visuals will more than make up for it.

I know nothing of the source material but that looked amazing.
I liked Jupiter Ascending too. Such amazing imagination and detail.

That was a really bad trailer.

I'll also agree that I was reminded of Jupiter Ascending, but for me that's not a good thing.

Definitely wonderful on an aesthetic level-- if cluttered and fashionably hyperkinetic-- but it doesn't give much of an indication what it's about. Hopefully the story can match the visuals.

Fifth Element and Jupiter Ascending were what came to my mind as well watching that and hopefully it's more of the former. Fifth Element gets heavy rotation on TV so hopefully this movie can supplement it as mainstay entertainment.

Perhaps it's time to remake Barbarella as well?
Man, that one has been through the wringer, at one point Drew Barrymore was rumored to be involved, and then Robert Rodriguez was working on it but ultimately shelved. That was close RR wanted $80M but the studio would only put up 60 and there were rumors of friction with him wanting to cast his girlfriend Rose McGowan in the role. Supposedly, Gaumont Television was working on a series for Amazon but haven't heard anything in a long time so that is presumably halted. I thought the success of Guardians of the Galaxy might've been a boost to making such a project but no.

Barbarella is a guilty pleasure of mine. It would look fantastic with modern SFX. It would still have to be kitschy as hell, of course. Back in the 60s, it did well in the UK but I believe it bombed in the US.

Hope it's a lot more like The Fifth Element and a lot less like Jupiter Ascending because I'm getting vibes from both.

I also hope that Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne have more chemistry and charisma in the actual movie but I'm not getting that from the trailer.

I hope that it will be as fun as the comics...
Which I loved and still do!
Good fun sci-fi and it is not taking itself all that serious, as Luc said the effect shots are not finished on this trailer.

The second trailer was released this morning.

It was nice to get a better feel for the world and story with this trailer.
So are the comics a pretty big deal in Europe?
I've never read them, although I did get the first one for free on Google.

I love the new trailer but I also loved the first. A space opera based on a comic that was one of the many inspirations of Star Wars directed by Luc "Nikita/Leon" Besson? Count me in! I just hope it's original and a success and not another case of John Carter where audiences had already seen most of Carter because everyone had ripped Carter off for the past 100 years! But to answer your last question, no, even though I'm Greek I haven't read a Valérian et Laureline comic book even though they have been translated and printed in Greek. I'm guessing it's more of a "French thing" than a European thing.

Well, here in Germany, it depends on the generation. Younger people don't tend to know it, but those who were young in the 70s and 80s, especially the SciFi fans, have a lot of nostalgia for it.

The bigger draw for the audience will probably be Luc Besson, especially it being a SciFi film. The Fifth Element was pretty big here, and it's still aired on TV at least twice a year.

I didn't realize I've been pronouncing Laureline's name wrong this whole time. I'd been pronouncing it Laurel-ine like line, rather than Laurel-een like spleen.
