USS Titan 3D pic????

I seriously hope we get to see it on TV or the bigscreen someday.

In the unlikely event the Titan ever makes it to screen, I doubt this will be the version we see. Paramount would probably have their own design.

I will say that this version is growing on me. I didn't like it at first but the more I see it, the more I like it.

Here is the latest WIP Shots of the Titan Ellery has Rebuilt the panels on the Upper part of the suacer... still needs a bit of adjustment here and there, and has completed the Sensor Pod her are some shots. For render time Ellery has seperated the Saucer from the secondary hull.

What are those large white areas on the top? Areas for future markings?

I think those pieces just have a high-gloss material. If you look at one of the other images you can see they're very dark in that shot.

Said it before, I'll say it again. Looks great!

Here is Ellery's newest W.I.P. shots of the Titan's Saucer. Still no Bridge yet, but he has placed some of the Escape Pods.

Here is the latest Titan Update and a message from Ellery on what he has done.

"OK, I've been a bit busy here but still have a few updates. I flattened the base for the front escape pods (left the ones in back since they overlap some hull plating and caused some problems. Also added the docking bulkhead on the sides of the saucer and fixed a lot of problems Next, I'll add windows and then move on to the bridge."

I hate to say it, but I don't particularly care for this ship in 3D. It's hard to say whether it's the design or the modeling, but the design and detailing look entirely too arbitrary, with unsophisicated surfaces and shapes. The latest images only show better that much of the surface paneling is barely related to the underlying shapes and volumes, as if it were a collection of thick shapes cut out and glued with little care or reason onto the model underneath - it just doesn't look very ... professional. I'm also not fond of the 'flat spots' on the leading edge of the suacer - they aren't very strong design elements, making the ship look like it is badly modeled, instead of looking like they serve a purpose.

Sorry to sound critical, and I realize this is a winning design, but it's just not demonstrating "why" very well, IMO.

Well I guess We can't win every one over.

I personally like the Direction Ellery is going her.
I have seen the texture that he will use when he finishes her up. I think it will tie it altogether in the end.

I respect your opinion however. you do have that right to
not like her. Oh well. thanks for the coment though.

Sean,

I'm a little confused by something. What's the purpose in "recessing" the lifeboats life you/Ellory have done? Other Trek ships have had the lifeboat covers surface-mounted on curved surfaces, without exception, so clearly this is not an issue in "trekdom" of that era. It also results in what are known as "stress concentrator points" in the structure... ie, if the hull were to buckle, it would most likely start to do so in these recessed "notches." If there's no good reason for them to be there, I (personally) would stick with the hatches-on-the-hull.

Just my 2cents...

Cary,
I will forward this onto Ellery, since he is creating this mesh.

I am currently have technical problems with my hard drive right now and have to take it in for repairs. We had a big
lightning storm here a couple days ago and I think a surge
went through my dsl line.

So I will try and post his response from my work computer when he get back to me.

Here is the latest Titan WIP shots and Ellery's comments:

"...Ok, after a long hiatus... I'm back on this. Air lock, Nav Lights and RCS packs are in place. I just need to cut the windows and then I'll get back to the bridge."

Nice detail! Interesting RCS packs there. Different.

The pictures also brought up something else to me, not specifically about the Titan but Fed designs in general. Why are the nav lights so HUGE? The one in the pic above is at least 6 feet across, and the ones on the original Enterprise were no better. I understand the size limitations of putting a light on the original model, but we can improve on that now, right? I mean, aircraft today have nav lights you can see for dozens of miles that are maybe the size of your fist. So why does Starfleet need these gigantic things?

Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent there, it's just something that's bugged me.

Didn't you kind of anwser your own question? It's a distance thing.

Here is the latest from Ellery.

"OK, slowly coming together... mesh-wise, there is not all that much left (the main thing left is the bridge).
Then I will start re-texturing her from the groung up.

Enjoy!

Very nice... still not really "in love" with the recessed escape pods up front, but it's not that big of a deal... otherwise, it's coming along nicely.

Wow.

This is my first time seeing this ship in 3D, and I just have to say that it's finally won me over (been on the fence for awhile). Took about a year, but that's a damn-fine looking ship.

Great job, Sean!
