USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

It's a good reason. I mean, come on, even under Pike the Enterprise was a special and important starship and highly regarded.

Until now, we had little idea whether the Enterprise was in any way remarkable before Kirk got his buttocks on the center seat. Pike was sort of famous at the time of his injury, but perhaps nobody had heard of him back when he commanded that obscure cruiser?

Then DSC first gives us the tidbit that Pike was famous a decade before TOS, and indeed incredibly famous - something like the fifth name on an alphabetical list despite his mediocre surname first letter. And then an Admiral claimed that Pike's ship was considered elite and special, in the fashion explicated in the above spoilers.

But those could also sort of cancel out each other. Perhaps there was nothing about the Enterprise worth treating in the special fashion, but Starfleet had a real problem with engaging the incredibly famous Pike in this Klingon thing - either out of fear of losing him, or then because they had zero confidence in him. The latter would sorta follow from any broader look at other famous skippers: they tend to take a creative approach to following simple orders.

Starfleet realized how absurd protecting the Enterprise because it was "special" seemed, so by the time of the war over Organia they changed their minds and sent the Enterprise to get trashed by Kor and the Klingons over Organia first.

Perhaps we are going to find out why Pike was so famous, it just hasn't happened yet.

Also it is possible that saving those rookies and getting burned for it is also part of the reason.

All of that is to come in SNW.

But he was famous in season 1 of Disco - one of the greatest Starfleet captains according to the computer.

I assumed SNW will be set after Disco season 2, but perhaps it will take us back further?

Perhaps they showed that on Discovery before they had decided to go for a SNW series.

He was given command of the Enterprise and there was only supposed to be a small number of them and I would expect them to only go to the most senior, experienced or promising Captains.
