USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I seem to remember Fuller tweeting out a picture of uniform tops that looked very much like the Cage/WNMHGB uniforms style wise but in the TOS colors.

IIRC, that was fake. They were $900 T-Shirts from J. Crew or some equally crazy thing.

The shirts were not made for DSC, but were posted with the intent that they were. Ergo, they were fake. It doesn’t matter whether it was a joke or not.

This is the way I picture it:

If Fuller wanted each season of Discovery to take place in a different era with a different set of characters, then it was only going to stay in the TOS Era for one season. He wanted it to look as much like TOS as possible. If that didn't go over well, then no big deal because the next season wouldn't be like that because it wouldn't take place then.

Then people above Bryan Fuller said, "We don't want to do all that! It sounds expensive! Set the show in one time-frame with one set of characters. Just stick with Kirk's time." Then Bryan probably said, "Okay. Not a problem. This is what I want to do. This is how I want it to look." Then CBS probably said, "No! You can't do that!" Then Bryan might've replied with, "But I thought you said you wanted the TOS Era." To which CBS would reply, "We want our own version of Star Trek. The Abrams Films are hot. The TOS Era is where it's at! But they updated the look! We want you to update the look too! But make it look different from the update JJ Abrams did!" Then Bryan might've said, "Okay, but..." CBS getting frustrated might've said, "Stop arguing. This is what we want you to do. Go ahead and make it happen!" Then Bryan might've replied with, "But isn't that a reboot?" CBS getting annoyed would say, "No! We're doing the Prime Universe! That's what makes our Star Trek separate from Paramount's Star Trek!" Bryan muses, "But if it's not the same, then it's a reboot!" CBS snaps, "IT'S A VISUAL REBOOT AND IF ANYONE ASKS THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO TELL THEM!!!! Now get out of my office!!!!!" Then Bryan left. To fight another day. After which he left "to focus on American Gods."

This would explain CBS's point of view, what Bryan Fuller probably wanted, and what we ended up with and why.

Eh I don’t think that’s it at all. It was Fuller who wanted everything changed, not CBS.

Uh, yes? It completely matters, that’s the entire context of the tweet.

The only thing supporting that is the tricolored uniforms. Everything else we know - from the complete Klingon redesign, to Fuller-approved concept art for three(!) different expensive bridge sets (including for the fucking Europa! Which is just a giant waste of money), to the frankly stupid design notes on starships (flat! No round nacelles! Gold hull instead of grey for the Discovery!) - they all paint the opposite picture:

Specifically Fuller dumping everything that vaguely looked or felt like Trek.

And then somebody else taking over that had no clue about Star Trek at all, but knew what a generic science fiction show should look like (grey corridors, blue uniforms, darkly lit), and just made that to get anything on screen.

But this is all just speculation. I'm really, really, really craving some juicy behind-the-scenes book or article. That's gonna' be one hell of an interesting read.

Maybe if it's one of those unauthorized companion books, I honestly can't see any CBS published books going into that deep of detail.

It could be decades before we see the "real" story. I think it's only been within the last 5-10 years that we've started getting more candid behind-the-scenes accounts regarding the Berman Era, not including from Ron Moore or Robert Beltran.
