The idea that CBS is disappointed with the performance of Discovery is harder to take than that time Paris and Janeway made sweet lizard love.

I too prefer if they wouldn't give Number One a name. I prefer questions over answers. I like how the comic Early Voyages handled it.
Number One asked not to go by her given name. This not only sidestepped the answer but gave Number One agency over what she'd be known by.
The current "gold standard" for how to do a prequel/insert movie while making it look like the old original without careful inspection is Rogue One. The current "gold standard" for remakes/reboots is Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (Star Blazers 2199). There you have the same spirit of the story and similar feel in the technology and design work, while updating it by 40 years of real world time and animation technology.
They've avoided extended shots of the ships for timing sake, on network TV in the Netflix era. Yet they gave a long and rather lingering beauty pass of a massive Klingon D-7 in full detail looming over our hero ship.
That mattered, and it was a damn good shot.

It was more than that, and if you'd like to chip in to pay the studios 4K rendering costs, go ahead.

4K gives me a headache.
It shouldn't if you're watching on a 1080p set.
How can 4K give anyone a headache? It's just extra pixels. If you're watching on a small enough TV (say under 50", from far enough) you won't even notice any difference.
Now, a lot has been said about why it's not on 4k, but it's not because it would cause any discomfort for anyone.
That uber-real motion could make someone dizzy, so a headache isn't out of the realm of possibility.
It gives me a headache. I don't know what else to tell you...

4K: The human eye can't discern the difference, but you know it's there.
I think the uber-real motion is due to a separate TV setting called video interpolation. At least, that's what Tom Cruise told me.
It’s probably motion compensation that tends to be enabled by default on most TVs that’s causing a headache. It’s been around since 1080p days, not strictly 4K related.
Since it doesn't just happen on TVs I think it might be something else. Haven't had the time to experiment with motion compensation, so 4K is something I just try to avoid. I also don't see it as a need for something to be in 4K. Doesn't do anything to the experience. YMMV.
