USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

You just can't explain it to some people, so I've given up trying.

I think it's more the fact the 1960s bridge doesn't look that bad. Yes the screen needed to be changed to widescreen, but everything else was fine as long as you replace the neon blinking screensaver lights with actual realistic data grids, charts, etc. I would have been fine with adding holograms too.

@PixelMagic It would seem so.

You just described what this bridge is

:( . Hey I'm not calling for boycotting of Discovery or saying things like Bernd on his EAS site. I'm paying my fee and enjoying the show. I only said the new bridge looks too "Klingon".

We have freedom of speech in this country and that opinion's not a crime. I'm supportive of the Disco crew and cast and not doing anything remotely harmful, just expressing my own artistic viewpoint.

And that's fair. I would like it if they took the time to address the differences (Dr. Who handled it wonderfully just in one line "You changed the desktop theme!"). But Trek writers do things differently than Who writers and that's fine. But as a fan, I'm free to express a preference. That's all.

I didn't any of the above so I have no idea...

Then I'm sorry, with all due respect, you do not have an eye for futuristic tech/aesthetics in fiction. TOS looks HORRIBLY dated, that's just how it is. I say this as someone who adores TOS. I don't even like all of Discovery's set aesthetics, but at least they don't destroy my suspension of disbelief as future technology.

To be fair I probably don't. I'm told I have terrible fashion sense.

But I am a licensed engineer, so I've always been a functionality over form guy. That's why I approve of the change to widescreen viewscreen (this is actually a necessary function), but don't see the point of other changes.
Assuming you’re American, that only protects you from censure by the Government, not other people or organizations.

How does it look remotely Klingon? No Klingon bridge looks like that.
Fair enough. I'll bring it up when you come over with handcuffs at my "bridge protest" ;)

It's the red lighting that permeates Klingon bridges, and the angular perimeter of the viewscreen (they could have left it a rectangle).

You can have your preference, that's fine. Just don't imply that I said you wanted to boycott the show. Since that wasn't part of my comment. Only that @PixelMagic was implying that TOS design is one that looks dated. I don't support that opinion but I know where he is coming from.

They should have put holography back into the TOS bridge actually. The Pike line removing them was odd to me.

Certainly an understandable viewpoint. But you have to keep in mind that engineering IS function over form, but Star Trek is entertainment. With all the futuristic TV, Film, and video games these days, Star Trek has to keep itself fresh from an entertainment point of view. Really, engineering point of view is almost meaningless. It's got to "look slick" to keep up with other futuristic franchises.

Now, I too welcome any balance you can strike between referencing aesthetics to TOS as much as possible, as long as it looks like modern fictional design. I'm afraid that if they went straight TOS aesthetics, no one would take this show seriously apart from a very small niche of die hard Trekkies. Almost certainly would not bring in new fans.

It’s clearly written as an insult on that Facebook post.
I agree, Bernd went too far in saying " But anyone who claims this is an appropriate and respectful reimagination has an awful taste and no sense of Star Trek."

As a frequent reader of his site, it's disappointing he went to that level.

I love Bernd's site, but his attitude on things disappoints me, and also probably does no favors for his own enjoyment of a franchise he's supposed to love. I am not saying you have to love everything just because a Star Trek label is on it. I find the Kelvin movies and Discovery just "ok, not great" but this foaming at the mouth hatred is next level.
