Okay, Forgive me going on a Tear here.. But you must understand...
I HAVE TO.. It's an inborn need to dive deep into this with visual aides of course, for those familiar with my posts..
Here we go folks.
I First need to preface this with a little explanation and background. I'm a child of the 80s. I grew up watching at that time, before TNG, reruns of the TOS series, which used to play on Nick at Night, then during the daytime usually, there was in between Danger Mouse and "You can't do that on Television" the Cartoon Star Trek series. I have the Vinyl Records released by Power Records, which came with a full size giant comic as the record sleeve. I love them! I am a huge TOS fan. I spent decades in discussion with fellow Trekkers who over the years have become some of my greatest friends. One constant tho, is the reverence for the TOS Enterprise. Whether in live action or animated by Filmation, it was one of the greatest childhood memories I have, to include TV treys in the garage with toys for controls, and friends acting like we are in the enterprise. A tape deck provided the background noises of the bridge while we played Star Trek in my family garage. Of course, since it was my garage, I got to be Kirk. It was glorious days.
Now I see this ship on STD.. and I just don't know. I think it's those damn running lights that really piss me off. New technology is not good or evil in and of itself. It's all about how people choose to use it. ~David Wong
Instead of going this route..
That's a horrible Bridge, looks like the Kelvin window for God's Sake!!
I mean, sure.. it's logical I suppose. But you figure with the monitor, they can use any angle of the ship and see what ever they want without issue. I don't know, it just looks really stupid IMHO. I can't really get on board.
It's the NX and Refit with some Phase II. It's the Amalgamprise! But it's not the TOS.
However, any one of these designs I would have accepted if CBS went that direction..
1. Jason ‘Vektor’ Lee (designer of the 2007 ‘
Foolerprise‘) has taken a crack at it by creating something more detailed and realistic, while retaining original design elements, even down to “The Cage” era pointy nacelles.
2. Dennis Bailey (TNG writer and
Starship Exeter CGI artist) also took a crack at a reimagined 1701 by blending the TOS, Phase II and TMP era Enterprises
LOL what's funny is me and Dennis had the same Idea. I didn't know of his work until I found it in a google search. Great Minds apparently. LOL. here's that pic I was messing around with again.
Pike's ship should look much better is all I am saying.
I can't stand the running lights. I mean, I just really hate them and the window. I can't explain it in rational terms, rationality does not matter in this instance, as this is purely an emotional response, I freely acknowledge. So rational debate won't change that. It is just how I feel about those items on the STDprise. I'm NOT a fan of that look. Although had they went with VeKtor's designs, I would have also been happy not just favoring Bailey's design concept. I just figured that the design I was trying to combine TOS and TMP refit. It seemed logical the TOS could look closer to the TMP refit. So I really really like this Bailey render I found online. I could accept that design. I would buy an art asylum or McFarlane electronic 11" ship based on it! But I still say, nothing beats the original. It's like that first time you fell in love. It was my first SCIFI series, and got me into Jules Verne, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury and so on.
I just wish there could be some tweaks before season 2, but looks like they are committed.. so buckle up folks. that is the shit..ahem.. ship we are stuck with.
Well, Sorry for the long skreee.. I just had to get out that at first I kinda liked the design, but more and more over time, the more I see of it, the more I learn about the design, it's not growing on me. It's like the feeling I got with the Kelvinverse Enterprise.. oh, a new take! .. time passes.. What? Oh? I forgot there was a Kelvin timeline let alone a ship design.. let me google that..
Oh, yea.. I remember.
But TOS..Enterprise
Will always be there for me, in that special way.
Permission to come aboard sir?
