USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Well we have at least a right side and top view from Eaglemoss' poster at Destination Star Trek, so that's pretty close to official as they're given the CG files.

Yeah, those helped, though they're pictures from a poster, so not as clear as I'd like. Plus we're missing the rest of the views.

See, they were actually triangle shaped on the TOS Connie, so as much as they have tinkered with the design, I think they are still triangle shaped areas (or landing strut covers, etc.).

I know they were triangles-ish, but their apparent movement in the episode seems to indicate that they've changed them. See what I mean:

They look like rectangular depressions, the shadows of which would appear as triangles under some conditions.

But looking at it from the end, with the light source almost directly behind it....

Though it looks recessed in your example, and raised in mine, it could be a trick of the lighting in the first shot. It wasn't great quality CGI, plus poor lighting. Either way I want to see a clean image or that model. Probably a lot of things we didn't even see in those 20 seconds.

The light source is in front of the ship, not behind. Plus you can see the rest of the "rectangle" on the left of your image.

I don't see how it looks raised at all.

That's for sure. Mayhap the model isn't completed so they kept it in bad lighting to hide that.

The lower sensor dome is a brighter light source than anything external. There's also those left & right facing, large windows on the underside of the saucer that are lighting up the registry #'s. That's why these things look both raised or recessed, depending on how you look at them and/or where the light is coming from.

^^ You guys probably can't wait for 4k blu-rays? I think you are over-analyzing each pixel in a blurry 1080p image.

We all better hope for CBS sake that they had. What's the point of filming a "prestige show" and not using latest technology?

Well, we are talking about CBS here. I mean...look at so many of their series.

As per the triangular, dark recesses under the saucer section they look largely the way they did on TOS, just more surface texturing and they may not be in the exact same locations on the underside that they are on the TOS shooting model. But they're more or less the same and I didn't even seriously consider that they might not even be triangles nor the same structures until I saw yesterday's posts.

They're either just like the TOS Enterprise's triangle "landing gear" features or close enough to it to not be an issue for me.

Is it cheaper to film 1080p than 4K? If so, there's your answer.
The cameras are generally leased for the duration of the season, unlike a studio-filmed production where they'd own everything and would probably get what was passed on. My guess is they would have planned the extra expense of 4k up front. No one wants a Babylon 5 situation now
