USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Actually, if Discovery herself looked more like that she'd be a better ship.

I've got to say...I actually really like the Discovery design now that I've had the chance to digest it a bit.

Much like the show itself...it has the basic lines and geometry to be instantly recognizable as part of the Star Trek / Starfleet brand, but it's different enough to be exciting and challenge the viewers.

As far as "hero ship designs" go...I'd rate it in the top 1/2 right now:

Enterprise refit/ Enterprise A
Enterprise (no bloody refits or alpha suffix)
Enterprise E
Discovery
Enterprise D
Defiant
NX-01
Voyager
Kelvinverse Enterprise

Found these renders but couldn't find the original artist (Artist if you made these please say so I can give proper credit). Really neat take on the DSC style on a 1701 layout. The window probably needs to be a bit smaller but overall could very much see this in the new/old 1701 design.

Very nice. That's how you make a fresh Trek bridge design!

I like the films just fine...but the Enterprise design is probably my least-favorite in the lineage.

Personally, I'd go:
1701-A
1701 Reboot
1701-D
1701-B
1701-C (might go higher if we had a more detailed model/view)
1701-E
1701-Discovery
1701 (original)
NX-01
1701-F (ST Online)
1701-A Reboot
1701-J

If they want to do a modern take on Star Trek where they can let their imaginations run wild, then they should call it what it is, a reboot.
They can do that and call it prime. Prime has nothing to do with changing, updating or adding things.
That makes too much sense, therefore has no place on this forum :D
Funny, I'd say that makes no sense at all. "Prime" is a term of continuity, used to describe a single (relatively) coherent fictional timeline. A reboot changes continuity from its starting point. Therefore, a reboot would by definition make something not-Prime.

Then, what is Prime?
The stories as defined by the writers.
Haven't you heard of the death of the author? Continuity is an intersubjective construct.

I rather like the 2016 version, but then again I also like 2009 version. I also like original 1966 version as well as 2018 version. I also like Enterprise-D and Enterprise-B (not too impressed with the whole Ambassador class Enterprise-C)...
Interesting. Personally, once we get past the movie refit version and the original TOS version, the 1701-C is my favorite version of the Enterprise, hands down. The proportions just work in a way they don't for most of the other incarnations. I wish we'd had a chance to see her in more than just one episode.

Gahh. Nice work in the sense of "technically accomplished," but I wouldn't want to see anything like that in the Enterprise. Too big, too dark, too metallic. (And I will never be happy seeing any Starfleet ship with a "bridge window." Still can't fathom why DSC imported that concept from the Abrams films.)

This would be pretty cool really. God I hope they don't make it glarringly retro
God, I hope they don't make it anything other than beautifully retro!

There. Scales balanced! ;)

I really hope they make it glaringly retro! That being said, I think the fan made bridge is pretty cool, it is too dark and there is too much empty space (so Disco style), but otherwise it is good.

It seems to me that in a good deal of the new interpretations of the TOS Enterprise, Abrams, Fan Creations, and now Discovery, keep referencing the the 1979 Refit/A design.

I've always seen that design a a new work of art that you just can't improve upon.
Making the the original configuration Enterprise look more like the refit seems right to me since it makes the refit process more plausible. The secondary hull in particular changed pretty drastically from TOS to TMP, but with the new design a bit less rebuilding is necessary. The new ship really looks like it could become the one in TMP with a new set of nacelles, a few other changes, and a new coat of paint.
Besides, if the refit design is perfect, what's the harm in imitating it?

Alex Kurtzman has said if they make the bridge of the Enterprise, they'll keep the same design, but update it to match the rest of Discovery. Probably in the same ways they updated the connie, Phaser, Tricorder and communicator.

So there will be touch screens and such.

No it's just a setting. Prime means the same setting as the other TV shows.

Can't say I have. Not sure it applies. I prefer the Brooksian theory

I think it would look goofy and would not fit. I would not mind something closer to the Walker than the Crossfield however.

Probably pretty similar to the fanmade one then. Sounds good to me either way.

Well, yes, the setting. That is to say, "a single (relatively) coherent fictional timeline." Otherwise, saying it's a TV show is strictly a statement about the delivery medium, and saying it's not the Kelvin films is strictly a statement about IP contracts.

So in other words, it's not just a floor wax, it's also a dessert topping!

Yes and DISCO is part of that "single (relatively) coherent fictional timeline".

Yah know, even after letting it settle in for a week, I really don't like this Enterprise design. It's a Frankenstein of parts from the NX-01, TOS, and Refit that don't really go together. I really, really don't like that they kept that godawful 60s Deflector when ships like the Shenzhou have more modern ones.

Which could mean absolutely anything. At least the general window location is the same:

What's your favorite take on updating the TOS deflector? How would you have done it?
