USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

"Thankfully this general design idea is all that’s taken from the Kelvin-universe."

I'd pick the Kelvinprise over the Discoprise any day:shrug:

I personally like them both, though the Kelvinprise has had several years to grow on me. From a design standpoint, I really appreciate some of the risks that the film designers took. While I'd spread the nacelles a bit further apart and scoot the neck forward a touch, I think it's a fantastic update on a classic.

I'm eager to see more of the Discoprise.

The point stands, by canon, that the Connie's were the best-of-the-best..

Best doesn't mean bigger.

You know, someone who watched TOS back in the 60s and saw the TOS movies once and then saw DSC would say "Wow! It looks exactly like the Enterprise did back in the 60s!!!" And yet here we are...

Whether the size of the Enterprise is the same or not, the deck layout has changed noticeably. There is only one bubble stop the saucer, meaning the bridge is a deck lower. The neck is shorter, meaning fewer decks.

It's a retcon. No need to obsess over details. And it doesn't erase your DVDs either, which won't stop you from enjoying the older stuff, but doesn't stop this from being a retcon.

As for the Enterprise on Discovery, it looks damned fine to me. So far the only thing I really like about the show, other than Saru and Lorca. And Stamets is ok.

Additional observations/nitpicks: Saucer edge angle resembles the Kelvin Timeline 1701 A. The saucer bottom lacks or mostly lacks undercut a la JJprise. The impulse deck docking port takes the place of what I believe was originally a screw hole. The nacelles taper more than originally, as in the Kelvin Timeline. The nacelle fins could be a callback to the refit, which had similar fins. The extended shuttle bay platform is not entirely original, as Voyager also had it. In an enhanced image I saw on Reddit, the shuttle platform appeared to have the red and green lights of the TOS version, not the ship name as on the refit.

Don't take these as complaints, I love the ship.

I’ve found a new appreciation for the Abrams Enterprise since the DSC one was unveiled. I never liked that this was what the Enterprise was meant to look like, it was too big, brand new and built no where no San Fran, engineering looked better suited to brewing beer than bending space time, the neck and primary hull were off balance. The whole thing was a mush of bad feng shui and oozed malign karma.

Now a new Enterprise is back on telly, more familiar, prime timeline, I can see the JJ one as the visually interesting alternative it was always meant to be. It’s no longer a threat to my precious continuity, and I am at peace with all versions.

I’m happy with what we got.

Shorter neck, shorter pylons with a different shape, different impulse engines, the nacelles domes are different, contour of the underside of the saucer is different. We already have the "Prime" 2250's USS Enterprise, the one in Discovery ain't it.
Not in the ships, rather in a reboot or a modern take on "Prime".

If they want to do a modern take on Star Trek where they can let their imaginations run wild, then they should call it what it is, a reboot.
They can do that and call it prime. Prime has nothing to do with changing, updating or adding things.

As a reboot, the ship is decent enough. As the supposed "original", just no.

Why not? It's closer to the original than any other ship or interpretation so far, and after 50 years, why not a little update?

You must be furious when you watch "The Cage" and then "Where no Man has Gone Before".

You _can_ make retroactive changes and stay in the same universe/timeline. This isn't new, and I'm sure you accepted dozens if not hundreds of such changes in Trek before now.

I love you, man. But no. ;)

I like both.

The Kelvin Timeline Enterprises have their charms. I like the Enterprise-A at the end of Beyond more, but for alternate timeline versions of the Enterprise they're okay. The exteriors are a lot better than the interiors in both cases.
