USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

Not sure how I feel about the Discoprise. On one hand the new design looks nice and is not a major departure from the TOS Connie. As others have stated, I get that some feel the designs from the 60's don't translate well into a series made in 2017/2018 and that the shows producers gave us a ship that looks modern yet pays homage to the classic ship.

On the other hand, it's clear now that Discovery is a reboot of the franchise. While it may be set in the prime universe, it's not the prime Trek universe established in the TOS and carried on through TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT. The ships are obviously not the same. The uniforms aren't the same. The tech is not the same. Really, except the names of a handful of planets and characters, there's very little that recognizable from the classic show.

That's not to say I'm unhappy with Discovery. I think it's first season has been way better than any of the other series, except maybe TOS. The production quality is outstanding. The characters are very good (particularly Stamets, Tilly and Saru). The stories have been fresh and interesting. All in all, I think they hit a home run with Discovery season one.

I just think that the shows producers should have been upfront in saying "Guys it's a reboot. We feel Star Trek is stale and we want to freshen it up. I know some of you will be pissed, but just give us a chance". I may or may not agree with their opinions (the producers), but at least I know they were being honest.

All that being said, I'm on board with Discovery and will be tuning in for season 2.

I can live with this. In fact, this ship is easier to picture being refitted into the TMP ship, anyways. It is close enough in every way that counts. Although, now that it is finally here, all I want is to continue watching Spock, Pike and the bunch from this point onward. I could care less about the Discovery crew. That bit of music, that few seconds of the E on screen.... more then happy with it. I just want the Pike show now, dammit.

It's more faithful than I expected it to be, but I'm glad it is, because It could have been really really bad. and Truth be told, if this had been the Enterprise in 2009, it would have been significantly more well received, sure there would have been those unhappy with it, but not on the disgusting levels it was, and this is so close to what people were begging for it to be at the very least. it's The Enterprise, not TOS Enterprise, but this is not being looked at through a TOS Filter from 5 decades ago, it's a 2018 Discovery Filter, and on those terms, I can accept it as The Enterprise within the Context of this show, It's certainly a hell of a lot better than the Klingons(which needed an update nut not so extreme)

This is more or less the sort of thing I was expecting. I'm not 100% pleased, but I'm not 100% displeased either, which has been my reaction to every ST hero ship made after TOS wrapped. Going forward, I'm more concerned about the story and the characters.

Aside from the pylons (who gives a fuckin' shit), this Enterprise was 99.999998% the TOS Enterprise. So, if you don't think so, I can't help you. YES!!! Discovery rules!

No, it was not. It was pretty based Close to the Phase II design, but was not really the TOS design. The base shape is the same, but the devil is in the details.

Correct. It would still somehow ruin TOS...
TOS has been set up now to almost religious degrees of veneration. it was a good show, it led to some other good shows. Much of it was fantastic. Some of it was goofy. A lot of it is outdated. A little bit sucked. The effects were good for its time and place but it was outdated the day 2001 hit the big screens. I've come to terms that some people will always demand a fully visually compliant look of uniforms and everything else, for a show that already contradicted itself. There are people who are, in other ways rational, but insist the world is 6000 years old.

If you're a fundamentalist TOS worshiper, rejoice, for Vic Mignogna has come down from Mount Sinai, and he has brought with him Drexler's Enterprise, reforged from the fires of Jefferies' celestial drafting table, yay verily it shall be enshrined eternally in Youtube. But look not at the Defiant of Enterprise Season 4, for verily it IS Enterprise, and though there are new watchers who have not been told by the prophets of old that they are not supposed to like it, you may ensnared by the competenat showrunning of Manny Coto, and there as an apostate of TOS will be your weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Anyway I thought it looked badass on this episode, and i was happy to see it. There.
Now can we get a Daedalus next season?

Clearly, CBS should have hired him to faithfully recreate that product. Just imagine!
